The profits from bringing in a huge opponent that one game will outweigh bringing in two cupcakes and paying them.

Why don't you believe it?
TV ratings alone would be huge for a high profile matchup even when we're away.
Obviously tickets will be double the cost if we were hosting an Ohio State ($85/ticket) vs. La Tech ($35/ticket). It'll be a night game, so more propensity to purchase concessions.
You honestly don't believe the total profits of a home and home with an Ohio State caliber opponent wouldn't be the same of two home games against cupcakes? Don't even factor in the non-monetary value of the matchup, like the increased awareness to Clemson football on a national stage.

You do realize that Clemson doesn't get paid for ESPN's TV ratings, right?

He was referring to ticket price and he is right.
Big ticket game: $85 (VERY conservative) * 85,000 (sellout) = $7,225,000 Average team: $40 (low ball) * 82,000 = $3,280,000 Crap team: $25 * 80,000 (generous) = $2,000,000 - 1,100,000 = $900,000
These are conservative numbers. I'm not saying we need to book OSU and Bama but why give money away when we can play Navy, Army, Purdue, Iowa State, Kansas, Indiana, Rutgers, Maryland, Northwestern, Kentucky, etc. We'll make more ticket money, the game won't be TOO easy so it will give us practice, it will likely be an easy win where younger players can practice, it will be a watchable game with will help with rankings, AND we won't have to PAY ANYBODY. We lose like $2,000,000 or more on these terrible games. It's idiotic.
Don't believe me? Look at the prices http://espn.go.com/college-football/team/_/id/228/

Our schedule is set up for 2 Big 5, 1 FCS State School, and 1 Little 5. We already have ND that year and Furman so this fits.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Schedule someone that matters. We already have two built-in cupcakes with Wake Forest & Syracuse, and then with Furman OOC. We don't need to add Louisiana Tech to that mix. Why not go for Penn State or Arizona or something? Someone out of our region, who will garner some attention. They are both quality programs and odds are they will be somewhere near the Top 25.
Louisiana Tech is a joke.

What exactly is the point of your post?
Are you suggesting adding Louisiana Tech is a good decision? Are you suggesting Penn St/Arizona/etc would be a bad decision? If you want to criticize me, that's cool. I welcome new perspectives. But at least try.

Several posts mentioning TV revenue. If that game is even televised, it will be a limited regional at best. Bet it won't even be available for us to watch in the Clemson market. That pretty much equals ZERO TV money and limited or zero exposure.for that game. Enough of the cash games. GO TIGERS!!!!

That's sort of the underlying theme of my post. Even if Louisiana Tech is a good team by 2022 and maybe a team like PSU isn't, they're still infinitely more popular and will garner far more attention. Sure, it'd be nice if we didn't have to play the cash game - but that's the world we live in now. If you're going to compete, you need to go for max money.

Who is in charge of creating the freaking schedule??? Someone put a sign in their office "Strength of Schedule Matters if you want to make it to a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP".
Then slap 'em in back of head if they don't read it everyday.

You people have little knowledge about scheduling. Our scheduling philosophy is South Carolina, A Power 5 opponent, a Mid-Major, & an instate FCS school. We play 10 P5 games a year. That's plenty. Plus LA Tech is a quality Mid-Major. Many people seem to forget they were ranked in the top 25 for some time in 2012 and lost to Johnny Football's Texas A&M by 2. They also won at Virginia & Illinois that year and beat the Illini in a bowl last season.

YOU people don't seem to realize that the landscape has changed with the new playoff system. Last year TCU played 11 P5 teams losing only 1 by 3 points in early October. They also played 1 FCS and 1 Fbs mid major. The problem was they beat 4 really terrible P5 teams so including SMU and Samford half of their schedule was of very little consequence....SOOOO they were left out of the Playoffs. Playing bad P5 teams AND mid-majors AND FCS schools leaves you OUT of the playoffs. You might also ask Art Briles how he feels about your formula.
The problem we have is beating half of the ACC teams, in spite of being P5 can be meaningless if they suck out loud.
We need to play more recognized power teams in order to boost our playoff potential and cut the freaking mid-majors and FCS schools out of our schedules. Too much at stake to ignore the new norm.

All you need to know about Tech is this: in recent decades, the Bulldogs have beaten Alabama twice, Ole Miss twice and Mississippi State twice, they've been to six bowl games and as recently as 2012, when they defeated Virginia in Charlottesville, were nationally ranked most of the season.

And despite that, they're still looked down upon as if they're a complete cupcake! That's ultimately the point here. There's no upside to playing LTech. If we win, no one bats an eye. Clemson is supposed to beat Louisiana Tech. But if we lose, we take a huge hit because we lost to Louisiana Tech. By playing a notable program, we'll at least be able to get some new/different eyes on the game.
