Defending our OFFENSE in 2019 would you...

Feb 5, 2019, 10:41 AM

Play cover 3 and zone everywhere, thus having only 6 close to LOS and feed ET.
Play man across the board and bring pressure hoping to get to TL before he finds the open man.
Play cover 2, with extra DB thus not having the physical safety to help in run support and make us matriculate the ball downfield at a somewhat slower pace assuming the Higgins or Ross doesn't split the seam for a house call.
Play umbrella Cover 4, and make everything be in front and again slows our offense down to shorter routes and more run.
Play man, with 7 in the box and take your chances?

I would not want to face this offense with any defense I saw this past season, especially with TL having a full season and another spring under his belt.

pick your poison. I think a Venables game plan

similar to what we did in the natty is about the best chance you'll have. Limit big plays, keep things underneath. Try to sell out and take away the running game once we get closer to the redzone (also live and die by the pressure down here). Gamble and hope you can win.

Imagine if we had a stud TE for TL also? We would be unstoppable imo.

You've got to try some way to pressure TL. If he has ANY

comfort at all he will just pick yo butt apart (like he did the greatest football team in history).

Change defenses frequently according to down and distance.

Since we'll be weaker up the middle on defense, you would run the ball on offense and play ball control so we have fewer opportunities on offense.

Venables may expect that and plan to let his more experienced secondary play under more pressure.

He may stack up against the run figuring that a big play or two won't hurt us as much with the expected offensive output.

I feel like he sold out on defense a little more in '15 and '16 when he liked his secondary and felt like it would take more points to beat us.

My choice would be fetal position

Often people show mercy on those in the fetal position.

On a related note.....

Our offense in 2019 may have several defensive coordinators in the fecal position while watching film to prepare.

If I had to defend this offense, I would slash my wrists.
