Deer fellow backyard bbq enthusiast,

Nov 9, 2020, 9:19 AM

What do y'all do with your ashes? I'm about to have far more than I know what to do with.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I have a very deep ash hole.***

Nov 9, 2020, 9:32 AM

and sweep ashes from smoker into that. when it's full then I go Obed's route.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I've got the ash bucket. Which is now nearly full.***

Compost pile in woods....

Nov 9, 2020, 9:31 AM

which I'm pretty sure is just a pile of leaves and sticks and pet rabbit droppings. But wife-of calls it a compost pile and I dgaf, so....

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Toss em in the crick.

Nov 9, 2020, 9:42 AM

Fertlize with them?

Hey, don't toss stuff in the crick.

Nov 9, 2020, 9:45 AM

Not ashes, not ant killer, not tv's, not bowling balls, not mattresses, not anything.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Was joking.

Nov 9, 2020, 10:08 AM

But of all those, ashes would be the least damaging.

So you're saying you have a big ash problem? Pro Tip:

Nov 9, 2020, 9:44 AM

Compost

I do have one of those compost tumblers, but I don't

Nov 9, 2020, 9:46 AM

think it can take all of that ash.

badge-donor-05yr.jpgringofhonor-aero.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You must have some big ash.***

Re: Deer fellow backyard bbq enthusiast,

Compost it. If you have a lot, add a little at a time and stir well.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Compost bin.

Nov 9, 2020, 10:04 AM

I don't put any other browns in there (lulz, but for real). That's probably why my compost has the consistency of pluff mud rather than the crumbly dry-ish compost you typically envision (I know we all spend much of our days envisioning typical compost).

Rain eventually takes care of them

Nov 9, 2020, 11:45 AM

I dump them on my burn pile, I have a perpetual bonfire area to burn fallen trees and limbs. A couple good rains tend to wash them into nothingness.

I have 5 acres though, nobody will ever notice a small pile of ashes in the woods. May be different for you.
