So decline an opportunity for our younger players to continue to develop their game and chemistry with one another? Certainly sounds like a formula for improvement... smh.

How is one game and another loss going to help with chemistry if they couldn't form any chemistry in an entire season?

You don't think guys like Shelton Mitchell, Elijah Thomas, and Marquise Reed showed improved ability and chemistry at the end of the season vs the beginning? Of course they did. And if Clemson hosts, they will be favored to advance to at least the second round. You're talking about multiple practices and games together... surely you can't argue that wouldn't be beneficial.
Look, I'm not happy with the way this season has unfolded, but to decline an NIT bid because you're salty is utter nonsense.

Why? Are you really that pretentious that you'd like to punish the kids because they don't play up to expectations? It's a game they love to play. You don't like it, don't watch.

I cant believe a fan would even suggest that you decline a bid. As badly as this team needs to continue to practice and play, declining would be the absolute wrong thing to do. a great opportunity to get some of the younger guys a chance to play and improve as well as travel and get the exposure of road games. Some of you know nothing about sports except your own selfish wishes. Support usuck

The team has declined the CBI the last couple of years despite needing that work and improvement.

I don't see why cost matters. Basketball turns a profit. We have needed the extra work and experience for years and still turn it down.
VCU won the CBI then made the Final Four the next year. Oregon won it in Brownell's first year, played in the NIT the next year, and has been in the NCAAs ever since. Pitt won it in 2012 and then went to NCAAs 3 of the next 4 years.
The tournament can be a springboard for programs who choose for it to be. We haven't in the past, wrongly.

There is absolutely no upside to declining an NIT invitation. No matter what other programs may have chosen to do in the past. For Clemson to decline to participate would be totally counter-productive and pretentious. This team has never quit all year and I'll guarantee you that the players want to be in the NIT no matter what some fans might prefer. Best option for a Clemson "fan" having issues with the NIT is simply not to watch the games.

The best thing that can happen right now is to expose players like Robertin and Hudson and a few others to tournament basketball. Their improvement is important going into next season. It's just like playing in a minor bowl game. The extra practice and game time is extremely important especially in the development of young guys. Some of you experts tell me how beneficial it would be to just call the season over now! I know if I was a player I would relish the opportunity to perhaps play in MSG for a championship. Wise up

Sorry but I respectfull disagree. It's post season play and that is always a good thing as our team gets to play and practice more.

So I assume we should decline any bowl bid that isn't at least the Russell Athletic Bowl, using that kind of logic.

Take the bid. We made fun of Scar going to the Birmingham Bowl. Are we any different in going to the NIT? Our basketball program needs a culture change and that won't happen with Brownell.

I dont think so... I understand the sentiment but much like the practices .500 teams get for low level bows... the extra games pay off for the younger players for next season. Coaching stuff aside, those are important.
