Danny Ford question relating to Dabo
Apr 27, 2017, 9:11 AM
|
|
I've been thinking about Ford and Dabo and the Alabama/Clemson connections of the past and present. I know Danny has resided in the upstate of SC vs moving back to Alabama, post coaching. Does anybody know why he chose that? I hope whatever led him has gotten in the Swinney's blood and when/if the time comes, they choose to reside in the upstate as well. Great place for championship families!

Ford's farm

was a part of one of his contract deals at Clemson. He got that as part of an extension I believe back in the 80s. He kept it, obviously, even when he went to Arkansas. When you have a farm, it isn't so easy to just find something similar in a different area like you would a house.
Plus, it's God's Country so of course he stayed!

I think the fans purchased the farm for him if my memory serves me correctly

who became a Clemson guy. All of us who have been a part of Clemson and can identify with how Clemson gets in your blood. He built strong relationships here both inside and outside of football. Second, he became a farmer. Some of us know how that gets in your blood too. Even when he was a head coach at Arkansas, he kept his farm in Pendelton.

Its not called God's country for no reason. Great place to live. Convenience to Clemson for all of the commemorative events. Free beer at the tap room. Photo and Signature $ ops as a perpetual celebrity.

Really appreciate all of your answers!! Did not know that was a contractual agreement. Is that still an incentive sometimes? Did the Swinneys get the land the new home is on in the extension? If so, nice play in keeping them grounded

No Kidding. I just checked and saw he is buried at Wooland Cemetery in Clemson.
Thanks yet again!

When Ford was ousted by Lennon/Robinson, part of his negotiations in leaving was that the farm in Pendleton was paid off/given to him from what I remember.
