Minkah Fitzpatrick

Jan 6, 2015, 8:14 PM

I read on here a couple days ago that the Alabama CB commit, Minkah Fitzpatrick, had been looking around, and that he had contacted the Clemson staff. Has any more info on this kid?

Re: Minkah Fitzpatrick

Jan 6, 2015, 8:22 PM

It would be great if true, but I've heard the suggestion that it could be counter-recruiting by other schools to sway Mark Fields away from the Tigers. I'd love it if we could land Fields and Fitzpatrick somehow, but who knows if that's realistic.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Minkah Fitzpatrick

Jan 6, 2015, 9:02 PM

Then we should concentrate on Fields. Minkah or whatever his name is
knows where we are if he's truly interested, which he should be. But,
this sound fishy to me. Hope we get Fields.

I said it was my opinion. How does that infer anything other than that? Though you claim to be sure that they aren't 100% honorable. What do you know that they have done, or are doing, that's not "honorable" as you claim?

Your exact quote was "Dabo and this staff doesn't have to resort those kinds of tactics like they do in cootville, lol." so you didn't say it was your opinion.

I wasn't suggesting Clemson's breaking the rules by any means, but things like negative recruiting are part of the game. I wouldn't be surprised if our coaches don't try to put something in recruits' ears in regards to other teams, just like they're doing about us.

If you would have read my post after that one, I clearly stated that it was my opinion that Dabo and this staff doesn't have to use tactics such as that. I feel confident in what Dabo is doing, and in what he is building in Clemson. I also feel that Dabo has Clemson in a position where they are would have to turn away prospects rather than try to "trick" a prospect in coming to Clemson. You weren't sure though, it was just your opinion like me? So we are both just giving our opinions, right?

We have one spot left and Fields is borderline committed now, so what is the course of action to get his verbal? Fitzpatrick is a legit corner still shopping around and everyone knows this so why not let the world know that he has contacted Clemson to come on a visit? It motivates a player to commit from a place that is regionally close , we have been subpar in recruiting , and gets us a player that the coaches see has more upside. What's the second reason? Simple if Fields doesn't commit then we have a perfectly capable back up plan that hopefully takes a visit and likes what he sees and comes from a talent rich area . It is a win win situation if you simply have a brain.

that were not recruited by Clemson. They have no other D1 offers and were given scholarships as a pay back to former players/coaches. This is very much different than a coach finding Grady Jarrett and offering a scholarship.

I don't have a problem with legacy players, but the fact is that they will likely play on the scout team and might get in on special teams or mop up plays against SC State.

Doesn't matter what we think. The important thing is, you've sold someone short before they've played a down of college football....no doubt the same thing some did with Grady Jarrett (hence the reason for the example).

Maybe being the son of a Clemson employee allowed the coaches to get a better idea of the kid's character and work ethic. Maybe they are able to better evaluate his potential by seeing him in person? My guess is you rather not give the coaches, or the kid, the benefit of the doubt and trust that they know what they are doing.

Was this the most winning-est senior class in Clemson history? ...Nah, can't be. These guys clearly don't know what they're doing...

Are you going to assume that every single scholarship player in the nation is of greater value than these 'legacy' commits at Clemson? Maybe we should get more guys like Chad Kelly or Bellamy. Because LOSING the player along with a 'wasted' scholarship is still worth that 5 star isn't it? That's the problem with this assumption that these guys can't contribute in some fashion b/c you also can't assume they'll always contribute based on some star system. Have you seen any of these 'legacy' commits play in person?

"Because LOSING the player along with a 'wasted' scholarship is still worth that 5 star isn't it? "
Yes and the scholarship isn't wasted it would go to a walk on player for the year.

I didn't say he did... I stated that the post was so insightful for pretty much stating the obvious. Again... let the staff at Clemson handle the recruiting. Brent will get another CB if he feels the need, if not... well then, he wont... That's his job afterall.

I have just read all of your posts in this thread, and you are either just trying to troll, or are need to come out of your mom's basement and get some fresh air.

You remind me of my 10 year old nephew with your playground responses.

No, being bitter about like a little pansy and worrying about like a little girl and getting worked up about it is what we are all pointing out. There is nothing you can do about it, its a legacy commit, they are going to be there, this is Clemson, there are some things that are bigger than getting the 4 and 5* recruits. In either fashion, its Dabo and Co's job to go out and get what he needs to fillt he class. If he saw the need to get an additional CB, he will get it. Quit worrying, Clemson will be fine...

Shall I assume you're referring to me...not answering?

Jan 7, 2015, 2:00 PM

Some of us work! Lol...I don't always have time to debate on here.
I did however read your last long post, which wasn't bad altogether.
we agree & disagree on plenty of things dealing with our program.
I'll argue that even when Clemson hasn't won 9 or 10 games, that we are still a family here at Clemson and it shows because even through rough patches we still recruited at a very high level. That has only improved with improved success & more winning.
if it weren't true, we would've never gotten the Nuks, Sammy Watkins, Deshaun Watsons, etc......
Every player we get doesn't have to be a 4-5 star. We develop them here!
Ask Vic Beasley and Grady Jarrett for just 2 examples.

Jan 7, 2015, 2:09 PM [ in reply to Re: Brian Senior himself was considerexca THROWAWAY ]

to try to move the goal posts once it was proven that Venables had in fact recruited Trapt, you tried bringing up a 2 star, who himself is the son of a lowly rated recruit, that knowitall idiots fussed about at the time, who went on to be one of the best DB's is Clemson history. In which case you were once again proven wrong and tried once again to move the goal posts.LOL

"Venables had in fact recruited Trapt, " Still waiting for this thing called proof but doubt we will get any . Really comparing the recruiting now vs in the 90's haha reach some more. Would like to see something called proof on B Dawkins being lowly rated .

" Brian went to William M. Raines High School in Jacksonville, FL. He began to make his mark by becoming an All State selection and helping to lead his team to 30 consecutive victories." All state in Florida but he was lowly ranked not making the connection.

having a different opinion does not make you a coot.

Jan 7, 2015, 11:52 AM

however, making groundless accusations and trying to make facts out of something that aren't fact, saying our coaches are doing something crooked is very cootish...
this has been some of the best years in Clemson's history and by far the best recruiting we've had in 30 years. I don't see how you can claim the we are not what we are, and still on the rise getting better.
= coot

tons of wins, recruiting is excellent, beating our rival handily (finally this season again) and some serious national powers over the last three or four years, players love the coaches and the family environment, they trust the coaches... So should you if you're a true tiger!

it's plain to see that our coaches have some integrity, something lacking in many programs.
Show one example of the way they have lied to us... How about you explain.

Took this from the STS Board
Roster management is, perhaps, the hardest part of recruiting. But it is also the most important. If Best is the Standard and if you aren’t content with top 15 finishes and want a national championship then those spare scholarships can make or break you. We saw the importance of depth this year. We had it all along the defensive side of the ball but you need it all across the roster.

If 3-5 scholarships isn’t a big deal then we should be cheating major because a 5 scholarship reduction is a substantive NCAA penalty. It should really hurt the program but Dabo is a freaking miracle magician in recruiting who lands these high 4 and 5* guys. Now is the culture of family dependent on these throw away schollies? Absolutely not—it comes from an entire program focus. Its part of the coaches and admin messages, its part of the fans, returning players, Thad Turnipseed and all the media production, and the brand Clemson has built with Dabo as the focal point. This is what he is best at, building belief and slogans and using support staff and everybody to be ‘all in’. STS has never said that Dabo isnt the greatest head cheerleader of all time and the greatest recruiting head coach since Danny Ford. But roster management and talent evaluation have never been his strongest personal traits (he has built a staff that is great at that though). But that all exists without these guys.

We already bring in Clemson kind of guys who don’t have outside problems or red flags—no BJ Emmons, no Oglesby, boot Kitt from the program, etc. and we trade that talent for the culture. There is no reason we have to offer these guys to keep that family atmosphere. In fact, as we saw briefly with DRod, too much favoritism or nepotism can eat at players and erode cohesion. Every one of those schollies could have gone to high character kids who were low/high 4* players—people don’t realize how many players we turn down or just don’t pursue because we say—well we are full at the position.

Also no one talks about family if you go 6-7. Start losing and that family spirit goes out the door. It comes with winning, which allows you greater ability to brand and differentiate your program and Clemson has done a masterful job of this.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

LOL anyone that depends on STS is a d@mn IDIOT.
