Dabo is - or soon will be - CU's 2nd longest HFC

Apr 29, 2019, 7:16 AM

Depends on how it's officially recorded, but whatever way it is, Dabo will be the 2nd longest-serving HC of the Tigers.

Danny was HC for 11 full seasons, plus 1 other season ('78) when he was the HC in a bowl game - his 1st game as CU HC.

Dabo has coached 10 & 1/2 seasons. By the end of 2019, he'll have 11 & 1/2 seasons which should make him 2nd longest HC behind Howard. Dabo will have to coach 19 more seasons (including 2019) plus at least 7 games of the 2038 season to surpass Howard's 30 full years as HC.

It's kind of a technicality since seasons are longer now - but officially - that would be the case.

Meantime, Dabo's record is beyond remarkable:

He's already passed Danny in games & wins. Dabo - - 146 games (116 & 30). Danny - - 129 games (96-29 - 4 ties).

Top 10 finishes: 6 of last 7 years
Top 25 finishes: 9 years
Bowls and/or CFP: 9 & 5
7 ATL DIV Championships (1 was a tie)
5 ACC Championships (currently 4 straight)
2 National Championships
Record last 4 seasons: 55 & 3
Record last 7 seasons: 87 & 11
8 seasons straight with 10 wins or more
1st team to finish 15 & 0 since the late 1800s
1st HC to throw a pizza party for the world

These numbers & facts will only get better & continue to pile up. Thanks Dabo, coaches, players, staff, D-Rad & all who've made this journey so much fun!

Good stuff. Pretty surprising considering we’ve been playing football for like 120 years. The longer the tenures the better. You don’t want to be changing coaches every 4 years.

I would personally start it from 2009. He was named interim HC in 2008 just before the last 2 or so games in November, then named full HC after the SCar game, so didn't even HC from half a season that year.

Dabo was named interim coach at the exact halfway point of the regular season in 2008.

The team was 3-3 at the time. He coached the final 7 games of the season including the bowl game.

Tigerman1978 brought up an interesting point on Dabo's time in 2008 as the interim HC. I looked it up in the NCAA rules & it says to be counted as a win, loss or tie for a coach - the coach must be "an interim HC or a HC."

So all of Dabo's games count - even the 6 he coached in the '08 regular season as interim and the Gator Bowl (by the Gator, Dabo had officially been named the new HC).
