I completely disagree.
It was completely apparent to most fans that Kelly was, at best, 3rd on the depth chart during the Spring Game. And few were surprised by this either having seen him before and knowing the talent on the roster.
So let me suggest that the coaches could have realized that it was time to turn the page and move to the next chapter of Clemson QBs and name properly rank the QBs.
What if Dabo had said: TL looks to be number 1; Hunter is number 2. Kelly, Tucker, Chase, etc are all competing for the job too? Would our backup now be Hunter? If so we would be in far better shape.
If you think I'm wrong - well I'll just say that most of Tigernet said the same thing after the Spring Game and guess what - to no one's surprise it turned out to be exactly right.
So please don't play for points on TNet with claiming Dabo walks on water. He's a great coach and a good human being. But we all are fallible, and he is subject to personal feelings just like the rest of us. He should have manned up in the Spring when Kelly talked about transferring and wished him well - slapped Hunter on the back and said, 'next man up', and maybe Hunter would still be here.

Right. So, according to you, Dabo should have lied to everyone throughout the competition. He should have told Hunter he was #2, even though he wasn't and he should have told Kelly he was #3, even though he wasn't. Oh, and he should have told Trevor he was #1, even though he wasn't. He shouldn't have been honest with his guys, but instead should have orchestrated the QB battle to ensure certain people transfer. That would have been the "right" thing to do, obviously.
