Cost to rent movie theater?

Jan 3, 2017, 11:01 PM

Anybody have experience renting a movie theater for private party?

Instead of dropping over $1k per ticket in Tampa, I'm thinking about renting out a movie theater screen and show the game on the super big screen. Even better if they throw in popcorn and drinks. Invite friends, family, and other Columbia based Clemson fans.

I haven't seen much organized by the Columbia Clemson Club yet. I'd rather not sit in a bar for four hours.

We need a drive in theatre that would air such a game. Would be awesome!

that would be pretty cool!

Haven't seen one in years though

Yep...not sure how popular it'd be today but I'd def go.

Contact the Big MO in Monetta, SC. They have three outdoor screens.

I think they are normally closed in the winter, so you can probably get a deal.

I know multiple people in Columbia/Irmo that would be interested. Couldn't imagine a theater would be opposed to that

Wonder if The Big Mo drive in outside of Aiken would be a option?

You should rent out Williams-Brice!

Jan 3, 2017, 11:38 PM

I know it's a dump, but you should be able to get it cheap to show a Clemson game, since Clemson owns the joint.

There is a HUGE screen in there.

P.S. Bring your own ice.

Would people be willing to drive to Greenville if there was a theater there that would be willing to rent? Also, how are you planning on getting the signal into the projection room to show the game? Sling TV is an option to get the signal, but I do wonder about how to connect directly into a commercial projector. Wherever it us would need a good Internet speed with WiFi.

I know of a theater in Greenville that may be willing on a Monday night, but not sure. I don't think they have WiFi either.

I know the movie theater here on woodruff rd got a UFC fight a couple years ago one time and showed it. A coworker and his son went and watched it. It was a live pay-per-view. They charged $20 a person. So I'm guessing they would be able to show a football game no matter what channel it's on.

Well...it's not like they'll be using it.***

It is possible they will have a watch party at Little John? I have not heard anything yet....but it makes sense.

But my grandson (a Clemson freshman) said that he was informed that TVs with the game are going to be going in all the school dining facilities Monday night.

Since they are all owned by big corporations now, I don't like your chances. Too much liability to rent the spaces out. Also, I think you will have technical issues getting a video feed projected onto the screen.

I think your biggest hurdle with such an undertaking would be commercial licensure.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Cost to rent movie theater?

Jan 4, 2017, 1:33 AM

Licensure aside, and contingent upon city / theater location... my friend told me the average would be about $300-$500 for 5 hours. He rented out a local theater for his daughter's bday in upstate NY last summer and said he paid $300 for 5 hours and it also included unlimited pizza & popcorn. But this was for a movie that was already being offered... I'm not sure how it works for broadcasting a game. Great idea though!

One of our theaters here in Charleston is always advertising renting out the theater for your next function. I believe most theaters can get live feeds and the game is being shown over free broadcast I can't see the issue in it.

In the movie Mississippi Burning, Willem Defoe was able to rent one for $75 a month.

Are movie theaters set up to take a cable stream??? Are the projectors even capable of that? They don't use the same projectors that people would use at home.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

You should check with the Nickelodeon…

Jan 4, 2017, 10:17 AM

They have beer on draft and they regularly rent out their facilities.
