80 in a 60 at 6 am. that is something to worry about.
I'm not worried one bit about clemson vs the posers. I'll still be in dallas Saturday. You ladies can fret all you want.

I set my cruise control at 78
Dec 25, 2018, 6:38 PM

Soon as I hit the border.
Hit a 60 mph stretch ...and didn't realize it until the cop popped me.
He said I was doing 80. So he was lying or my cruise control sucks.
He clearly set a trap for idiots like me . The irony is I use the cruise control to make sure I never get busted for more more than 10 over.

Do NOT just pay the fine

Search online for a traffic lawyer in the town/area where the ticket came from. That lawyer will go to court for you and get the ticket reduced to a much lower violation, usually resulting in no points and no higher insurance for you. And you'll pay about the same to the lawyer as you would pay for paying off the ticket.

You don’t need a lawyer. Yes, you’ll miss a half day of work but it will save you $100-$200 off the ticket and they’ll reduce it down from a super speeder so it won’t affect your insurance.
It’s a racket to produce revenue. Just get there early because the court will be full.

My man, 20 over the limit is asking for it
Dec 25, 2018, 7:52 PM

Preaching to the choir at this point...
My philosophy is to never go more than 8 mph over the limit during daylight & no more than 5 mph over at night. Do that and you'll never get a speeding ticket.
FTR - most all cars run about 2mph less than the speedometer displays. So if your speedo said 78 you were probably rolling around 76mph

When he hits a car at 80, or can not react in time to avoid
Dec 25, 2018, 10:55 PM
|

causing an accident that kills someone else's family, he will be crying big tears in front of the police and judge, swearing that he didn't mean to hurt anyone.
Yet, he was so much cooler than everyone else on the road as he went 80 (about 120 mph less than professional race car drivers of which he is too chicken to challenge on a track). Instead, he impresses the "bad drivers" that weren't smart enough to go 80 in a 60. He goes in and out of lanes thinking he is an excellent driver, but is only successful because everyone else is tapping their brakes to make the squeeze work out for him and to save their own lives.
Vehicular Homicide Penalties The consequences of a vehicular homicide conviction depend on the circumstances. But generally, the possible penalties are:
First-degree offenses. First-degree vehicular homicide is a felony. Generally, convicted motorist face three to 15 years in prison. However, offenders who commit first-degree vehicular homicide as a habitual violator are looking at five to 20 years in prison. And for most first-degree vehicular homicide convictions, there’s a three-year license revocation. This, of course is multiplied by the number of people that do not survive as a result of the event and are usually sentenced to be served consecutively.
The aggressive driver is always very sorry standing their with police and emergency personnel beside the interstate.
I drive on the interstate a lot. Have driven across the country many times. The driving is actually worse in the congested east than out west. I am really blown away by the bad driving I see and the potential catastrophic situation some drivers put themselves in. They drive right on the rear end of vehicles going 80 and above. DO they realize that everything must go perfect for them not to have an accident? Do they realize how often the other decent drivers are bailing them out?
Speed Trap? 80 in a 60? Glad that state patrol in my state was doing his job to protect the public from him.

Actually, there are 80 mph speed limits in several western states and even as high as 85 mph in Texas.

The three worst spots - in no special order (based on 22 years of living in Atlanta and 20-30 trips a year back to the upstate) are:
1. At the weigh station near Lavonia. South of Exit 173. They like to sit in the median/turnaround after you top the hill (southbound).
2. Near the Commerce Exit (Exit 149 - Tanger Outlet Mall). The Banks County Sheriffs are the worst!
3. The Braselton City Police work near Exit 129 - a LOT. The classic ‘city limits incorporate the interstate’.
My favorite question for them was always: “Have you ever actually caught any real criminals?” just kidding... Not much experience on I-85 south of Atlanta.
Safe Travels!

Bill, that's not where it goes down to 60, so if you are under 80 there, you will not get pulled. There are about a half doze places under construction, usually where they are supposedly working on a bridge for the widening. It is a work zone, but there are never any workers there when I go by. I always slow down to about 65 there.

when I came back through pennsylvania last

summer, I kept going through areas saying stuff about cameras getting license plates for speeders. I did try to slow down to the construction posted speed, but everybody in the clump was generally going about 20 over. Did make me kind of paranoid. Sort of expected to get home and find a Penn DMV envelope with a ticket in it. I really, really hate speed traps and all the various ways highway patrol uses to snare folks. Then again, I did get a strange pleasure out of watching one of the hidden crawlers in New York whip out from an access road to nail the clown who blew by me.

I was busted by a camera for speeding in Arizona. I got home from a golf trip and received a letter with a picture of me driving a rental car and a ticket for speeding. Good thing it was a camera that caught me because I'm sure there were some previous barley pops consumed.

Thats borderline Super Speeder status. Meaning you arent allowed to drive in Georgia, and you get an additional $200 fee on top of your ticket.Failure to pay the Super Speeder fees turns into an arrest warrant in Georgia.
Ya got lucky, not super lucky, but lucky.

In Virginia it is considered reckless driving. You can lose your license. And yes, 80 mph is reckless.

Reckless cannot be determined on a blanket basis. For some 80 is, for others it simply is not, whether due to attention, car capability or reflexes. You can’t legitimately say 80 is out and out reckless for everyone.

up to 80 on an interstate, if you cruise at roughly 70. I would agree that 85 is kind of pushing it. Usually if you are whipping along at that speed, you'll notice it, even if you might be wool-gathering.

my grandson said, "Is there some reason you have to drive 90 MPH?"

Most of my best friends won't ride with me driving,
Dec 26, 2018, 6:30 AM
|
|
as I have had that lead foot since I've been driving.
Several years ago on a trip to Texas, my brother's wife leaned across a seat and said, "Gosh, I don't remember driving 100 MPH across a bridge before."
I was on I-10 on the 26 mile bridge west of Baton Rouge heading toward Beaumont, driving my Mustang convertible...with the top down, the radio playing rock and roll and a drink in hand...in the left lane. Told her there was a reason why the speedometer read 160, I didn't see any cops and saw no reason to poke along.
Even my son insists on driving, which usually causes arguments as he thinks speed limits are there for a reason. (lol) Best friend's wife absolutely will not ride with me driving for another reason: she knows I usually carry loaded pistols on trips...one in the glove box, another under the driver's seat. Locked, loaded RTG. lol

They are worthless. I am a retired officer. In the old days of big powered x band without the "button," a detector was 100% detection. The high powered x band was always on and could be picked up 2 or more miles away. Then came KA and the instant on button. It's detectable range is pretty much line of sight. With instant on, your radar detector will beep when you are being clocked. Sometimes you will get lucky and find the lazy officer who leaves it on or the one who is bad at guessing speed and turns it on too often. Don't count on one to save you. I never pressed the "button" unless it was a ticket I was going to write. A radar detector never helped anyone avoid a ticket from me. Having said that, I despised writing speeding tickets. I worked drug interdiction and speeding tickets were a necessary part of it. I gave as many warnings as I could get by with.

Nope they work just fine especially on the interstate. You see when you flip it on a car a mile or 2 ahead of me, I then slow down . I have had a radar detector for about 15 years and it has saved me 100’s of times.

And my RD is capable of picking up all bands , k , kA , x , laser you name it . When KA came out it helped the law but now the Radar dectors pick it up for 1-2 miles. So while you are running it on someone ahead of me I know it. My RD says KA alert .

...radar detectors have been almost useless for a long time. Most use the instant on laser detectors, get you in their sights and zap you before you have any kind of opportunity to respond.

I use the cruise control to avoid speeding tickets. Ive only had 4 in the 29 years I've been driving, including this one.
Simply didn't notice it drop to 60. It was 6 in the morning as needed no1 was on the road. Simply didn't notice.
Should have been 78 in a 60.

Not sure this has been discussed but as someone who has been caught speeding in GA, they have the additional “Super Speeder” fine, which is $250, in addition to the ticket fine! Such a crock!

Trooper or local?

Much different rules to follow. If it was a trooper you’re effed.
Locals have to be in plane sight for 500’. Can’t be within so many feet of a speed limit sign. City/County must have the speed detection device warning sign. Lots of rules for them to follow.

He knew what he was doing.. wrote 585 ft.

On the ticket which I assume means 585 ft after the speed limit dropped to 60.
It was 6 am so it was still dark. Just didn't realize I got hit a 60 mph zone or I would have changed the cruise control to 68.

What county? Franklin?

80 in a 60 is not minor. I think 80 in a 70 is still considered speeding.

Georgia super speeder fine. Look out for it. Not sure if this qualifies or not. But check it out. May be worth going to court and pleading down. $200 additional fine from the state that you may not otherwise know about until after paying your ticket therefore pleading guilty so there is no way back.

Congrats. Absolutely no reason to go that fast

You want to get somewhere quick? Buy a plane ticket. I have to go 9 over on I-85 in order not to get run off the road. I wish more people like you would get pulled over. Add cell phones to the equation and you have a recipe for disaster. Slow down - it’s easier on your vehicle and you save money at the pump. Plus, it’s safer. Rant over

law and order when it comes to rounding up undocumented Mexican housekeepers or construction workers and putting them in detention centers separated from their families, believes the speed limit laws are to be laughed, abused, and even purchase equipment to help them break it. One of these lawbreakers is much more likely to cost someone their life and I don't think its the housekeeper, or construction worker. I don't think its the 7-year old Guatemalan boy or girl in the detention facility that we should be afraid of.
