not defending them, but the bowl system is pure crap

there are 35+ bowl games, yet teams go to the same 2 or 3 places every year. If I were SCAR, I'd want to go ANYWHERE other than Tampa/Orlando for a change. They go to one of those places and play a slow-footed Iowa/Michigan/Wisc/Big10 team, what 4 years in a row? Come on.
We have the same issues, basically. Wouldn't you like the opportunity to go play in Dallas some year, or New Orleans maybe? We have almost no shot to ever go anywhere besides Miami, Atlanta, or Orlando (besides a really crappy bowl).

I think that system will loosen up starting next year. ACC

will have a shot at some other bowls like Gator. On the down side though (thanks to Swoffie) Notre Dame will be able to pass some ACC teams for their bowls even though they are not a member of the ACC in football(ridiculous). Should shake things up a bit.

Doesn't Cap One pick before the Cotton?

Or do they work in concert? Wouldn't wanting the Cotton be really asking the Capital One not to pick them?

I believe you are correct.

The Capital One Bowl gets the 2nd pick from the $EC while the Cotton get's the 3rd pick.
Outback picks 4th followed by the Peach-Fil-A, Gator, Music City, Liberty, BBVA Compass, and Independence.

Bowls talk to each other.

If both the Cotton Bowl and Cap One are choosing between Missouri and South Carolina, they will talk, and it will be better for both bowls' ticket sales and such that SCar will go the Cap One and Missouri to the Cotton, because those teams are closer to each of those respective bowls. This year it also helps that Missouri and SCar are ranked so closely, so there's not a big difference in picking one or the other. One bowl is not getting screwed. Sometimes a bowl will pick a lower ranked team just because of their location.

Cotton Bowl has a lot of history.
It should have been a BCS bowl game.
Your dislike for USC should not cloud your judgement of this bowl game.

Check out the history...it is a great bowl game.
Clemson has even played in it.

That was just for a change of venue...the Capitol One has the first pick and then the Cotton. The Capitol One wasn't going to pass on us.

Cap 1 pays a lot of money for the first pick after BCS picks are taken. The next few bowls work with the SEC to place teams with certain restrictions on loss differentials. The only chance USC had to go to the Cotton bowl was for Missouri to beat Auburn.

The Cotton Bowl didn't want USuC and it had more to do with travel and the possibility of an old BIG 12 match up in a Texas bowl. It'd sell more tickets than a USuC/BIG 12 match up.

It really doesn't matter which bowl Gamecocks go to. It would have been refreshing to beat a team outside of the BIG but Wisconsin is a worthy opponent to showcase Spurriers dominance over the ACC of the North. Clemson can have fun being dealt a 21+ point loss to OSU and another drop in the polls.

BTW, if any of you knew how the bowl selection works, Capital One picks first & takes the highest rated (or 3rd ranked SEC team) in the BCS poll generally due to bowl tie ins and the fact that the SEC has a team in the National Championship every single year.

Cap 1 has the first pick after the BCS and has the largest payout of all the non BCS Bowl games. The Cotton Bowl would have been great since we have never been there but they normally pick a team from the SEC West due to travel and ticket sales. Since the Tennessee debacle I will gladly take the Cap 1.
