Got the HVAC company out there installing a new Trane

Apr 8, 2020, 10:21 AM

I get a little sick to my stomach every time I hear them bang on something out there. Because it reminds me that they are here and that I am about to be a little poorer.

RIP 25 year old unit. You served the neighborhood well.

ASHRAE life expectancy on split systems is 15 years

He got 25 out of his last means some poor sucker got 5 on theirs.

Yep. Lucky as the other dude is unlucky.

My parents had a carrier unit for 30 years. Then went through two after that and neither lasted more than 10 years. Too much cheap crap today. Only thing steadily more reliable has been autos. Almost everything else, NOPE.

There is a whole neighborhood in Mt P

Apr 8, 2020, 10:58 AM

that was built about 20 years ago--one section of Rivertowne. I found out quickly not to buy ANYTHING out there. Every house was a case of deferred maintenance. HVAC's were original, roofs were original..just about every house for sale was a maintenance time bomb going off since nothing on a house lasts more than about 20 years.

I guess everyone out there figured they got in cheap, were able to sell at a profit, and its cheaper to move to Carolina park in a new house then fix what they had. Probably right.

Once you buy a postage stamp lot in Mt. P

What's a new roof, siding, windows, exterior paint, HVAC going to run you....

A lot in Mt. P half the size of my own, with no house on it, is more valuable than my lot, twice as big, with a house on it.

1 mile can make a big difference.

a couple hundred yards can make a big difference. If I go across Coleman, the price goes up significantly.
