Confusing Bleacher Report Ranking

Aug 31, 2017, 12:49 PM

First off, here's the link: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2724317-how-much-does-your-college-football-team-matter?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=college-football

They've ranked Clemson #9 in some sort of relevance ranking based on various factors. One of those factors is "ancient history." And here's where I need someone to explain WTH they're talking about.

Weakest Category: Ancient History (108 points)
Clemson's ancient history isn't terrible, but it's a bit telling that the Tigers have played in nearly as many bowl games in the last five years as they did in their first 75 years (seven). Their winning percentage prior to 2001 was just 58.8—compared to 69.5 since then—and a combined total of one national championship and Heisman did little to nothing to help matters.

Are they saying Clemson only played in 7 bowl games before 2012??? Seven?

Thanks in advance for helping me learn to count.

You aren't alone. No idea what he's basing that on. 23-19 record counting playoffs. Guy must be a coot. Mildly retarded hater of tater.

if what you put on your post is the quote , i took it to

Aug 31, 2017, 1:18 PM

mean that, in our first 75 years of playing football (what 1898 or something like that till '73). without looking i would think that is fairly close. not sure how they chose bowl participants back in the day, but i would assume putting butt's in the seats was a major factor along with winning ones conference and popularity among ap voters.

Nothing about this ranking process makes much since.

Fan engagement is based on the size of your stadium and Twitter followers? How about your average attendance compared to the size of your stadium. Just because you don't have a 100k plus capacity stadium does not mean that your fan base is not engaged.

Since The Interwebs....Modern Journalism Standards

Aug 31, 2017, 1:49 PM

and quality have plummeted to the point where a mentally retarded turtle on meth could be a internet journalist by accidentally copying and pasting web blogs from an insane asylum.

If the medical profession experienced the same level of post-internet digression like journalism did the human race would be extinct by now.

Weird stats on those 1971 and earlier bowls

Aug 31, 2017, 2:14 PM

That bowl games count is junk. I just picked a few "traditional power houses".....

Alabama 24 (expected) http://mcubed.net/ncaaf/teams/al.shtml
Notre Dame 3 (not expected) http://mcubed.net/ncaaf/bowls/nd.shtml

Keep in mind Clemson was a military school of around only 446 military students until 1955, the first year it went co-ed civilian.

There was not many bowls then and you sure didn't go to one with 6&6 record

You mean Elvis would not come in and do a free concert for a 6-6 record? Hmmmm interesting.

Years Clemson has been in a bowl since 77

Aug 31, 2017, 6:56 PM

1977
1978
1982
1985
1986
1987
1989
1990
1991
Memory a little foggy between 1992-1996

1996
1999
2000
2001
2002
2003
2005
2006
2007
2008
2009
2010
2011
And I believe 2012 is we're the 75 years stop, though that doesn't make since either.
