Im not sure how this expenditure makes the program better

Aug 21, 2015, 11:01 PM

please explain why i should feel my $$$$ was not wasted on a path from north to south it was not needed. if we needed a big showy piece, just put a huge paw out there and invest the rest in something else.

Its not your money anymore when you voluntarily give it away. Taxes on the other hand...well.

Because they modified the club seats to just one new floor the tiny walkway in between the lower club seats and the concessions in very crowded. People still use it even though its WAY overcrowded. Honestly its dangerous at times. They made a "bypass" that looks great with awesome views.

Still would like to see a museum there and the original Oculus that was tricked out but oh well.

Also he was pretty clear that it wasn't about the program, it was about fan experience.

The other improvements in the west end zone have been fantastic. But I never really saw the point in this. It looks like someone had a ton of extra money in the budget and just made up a way to spend it.

Re: Im not sure how this expenditure makes the program better

Aug 22, 2015, 3:46 AM [ in reply to Im not sure how this expenditure makes the program better ]

Because it improves the look of the stadium and the football program as a whole and it will impress future recruits. And if it helps out recruiting in the slightest way then it is well worth it. Cause better recruits means a better football team, and a better football team means more wins.

I think it looks spectacularly cheap and tacky.

But then, I'm not the target audience.

Re: OP wants to bulldoze Bowman field and build cheap warehouses

Aug 22, 2015, 9:51 AM

You don't add seats just bc you can fill them once or twice a year. You always want more demand than supply. The smartest thing we could do is take ten rows off each upper deck and add rows above the band and lower student section.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

IMO money to construct the Oculus was well spent.

Aug 22, 2015, 2:38 PM [ in reply to Im not sure how this expenditure makes the program better ]

Today's kids go for the flashy futuristic look. I believe the Oculus will be a factor that will push a big time recruit into the Clemson fold. Combine all of the great reasons for recruits to come Clemson, now add the Oculus and you have some kids sold. Kids that use to select Bama, Auburn, OSU, UGA etc...

Not only will it give us a recruiting edge it will bring more money into the athletic program.

Just one fans opinion. I think the money to build the Oculus was $$$ well spent. The entire university will benefit financially.

Your money didnt go to the oculus. Your particular percentage went to the toliet paper for the restrooms in Death Valley for us to wipe our butts with.

Thanks so much for your contribution. That CERTAINLY make our programs better.

I like it and all just also want another deck that seats another 30,000....that would be beast! Cause then we could get everyone outside in and really get that place out of control and loud.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: FB Update: Photos: Inside Clemson's Oculus

Aug 22, 2015, 1:06 AM

I couldn't agree more. I'd love to see more seating put in as well. If we could get to 90 to 100 thousand strong in there it would be stuuuuuuuppppiiiiiddddd loud.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That would be a disaster

Aug 22, 2015, 1:41 AM [ in reply to Re: FB Update: Photos: Inside Clemson's Oculus ]

We just don't need that many seats right now. We could probably fill another 5k sometimes, but adding 30k is a bad idea. Sure, when FSU or South Carolina comes to town, you MIGHT come close to selling it out, but otherwise, you'd have tons and tons and tons of empty seats...

Our attendance has been really good the last couple years, but we haven't sold out every game. The UNC and NC State games for example had about 79,000 last year which looks pretty much full in an 81,000 seat stadium like ours. There were tickets still available but people didn't buy them. But put 79,000 in a 100,000 seat stadium and it creates the perception that we don't support our team or fill the stadium.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

GO TIGERS

Re: That would be a disaster

Aug 22, 2015, 8:13 AM

I agree with this. The only exception would be of they made an expansion that had an automated tarp over it, where it would be a big Clemson flag during most games, and additional seating for big games. Jax does this to cover their empty seats.

> with extra seating.

Then what happens when we have a downturn? We would have driven down donation levels and ticket prices, and then add in decreased attendance. Calamity.

We see with our own eyes where increasing the prices (via seat equity) has taken us. Now is obviously not the time to reverse course.

Out of all the reasons people don't go to games, pricing is waaay down the list for the vast majority of people.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

In that link above, it looks like there is much more to add. When will they start on the rest of it, or is that rendering not what really will be built? The Oculas and the entire project will look amazing if the final project will look like that. Anyway, thanks for any insight offered.

I know a lot of people don't see the need but I think this is just like putting in a jumbo tron. I see the silver being lit up purple with the orange tiger paw backlit orange. It may be gaudy but it still rocks! Our kids will like it and imagine if we win a NC...then we light it up to look like the NC trophy with a big tiger paw in the middle. I would buy that picture and put it in my office! Go Tigers!

I'm a die hard Clemson fan. And have been so for all my life. But the o"Oculus" is Pointless! It's like putting a super charger on a car sitting on cinder blocks.

What's the f-n point?

Sure. Some 18 year old kid will see it and go oh, and ah. But that is not going to pay for his education.
