"Our guys never flinched"
Defensive coordinator Brent Venables said his defense felt like it was in control during the Orange Bowl, even when the group was giving up chunk plays. He then said that his defense didn't flinch when the game was on the line. Photo by Robert Mayer / USA Today Full Story » |

Coach V deserves praise. Complete transformation from when he arrives. Gave up some plays yes but that was one of the nations best offenses. D line was dominant! Go Tigers!!

Jayrone Kearse

IMO,
this guy has a long ways to go to be consistent in the secondary (Kearse) #20 Most people thought he would eventually play LB, now might be the time to make that move. Wiggins seems better fitted back there.

Jayrone Kearse = true freshman with only about 6 starts

He makes freshman mistakes then comes back and makes all-star plays to off-set his mistakes.
I think he's a future star at safety.

I still C him making the move to LB. I just don't think safety is his spot. But hes going be a good player, agree.

There is a guy who may be entering the NFL draft that is 6'3" 235 and plays D-end for the Tigers. I hope Vic stays put but my point is Kearse could work as a LB. He can put on the size and muscle to do it! And no doubt he has the best teachers as coaches that would get him there.

he had some very good plays but he also was partly responsible for TWO T/D`s!!he will get better but does he have the speed to play back there.. Smith is already somewhat slow for safety

I agree.
I'm not saying Kearse isn't going be a fine player. Only that he maybe better suited at LB.

Kearse just needs some good coaching and film study. He needs to learn how to remain in the center of the field as a safety. He needs to study how Brinson Williams, for the gamecocks, play the safety position. He plays deep and he does not allow receivers to get pass him. I think Kearse can be great safety once he understands the fundamentals of the position.

Spencer Shuey deserves game ball
Jan 4, 2014, 3:01 PM
|
|
I will miss watching Spencer Shuey perform on the field. I will never forget his sack of the GaTech QB for a safety (2012); however, his punishing hits on Braxton Miller were game changers and will forever be included in my memory of Clemson Football. That's the type of toughness is what we've missed on both sides of the ball since the departure of Danny Ford. Our DL, DEs and Stephone Anthony have the same toughness as Shuey. I credit Coach Venerables for the transformation. If we can get the OL and DBs in that same frame of mind, everything else will fall into place. I hope that the underclassmen are taking good notes from Shuey's leadership. Thanks Spencer for being a Clemson Tiger and for your steller football career.

And an excellent career he made for himself at Clemson. Its players like Shuey that make us proud Clemson tigers. And all those talking all the crap about our Tigers before the half don't have a clue of how the game of FB really works. How many times have we all seen other teams take a half to get adjusted and come back and beat the crap out of their dominate first half opponents in the second half. At least give our team 3 full quarters of play before you start kicking the players off our team. Going undefeated in college FB is as hard as climbing an oiled flag pole, and very few ever go undefeated. You don't have to win them all to win it all. All that crap talked about our team in the first half, is an insult to the BCS champs they really are.
