Clemson vs Bama - 2020 Recruits - Thoughts for Consideration

- Coaching legend Nick Saban will turn 68 years old on 10/31/19. So for most 2020 Bama recruits who will spend one year as a redshirt, and their second year as a tackling dummy (only 40-44 played in natl championship vs. 70+ Tigers who played all year), they will be hitting the field in 2022 for 71-year-old Coach or his replacement, whoever that may be. Outstanding DT Quinnen Williams, Bama's top player, finally started this year as a redshirt sophomore. Compare outstanding Clemson DT Christian Wilkins who is spending his 4th year in the starting rotation. - Coach Saban seemed a bit chapped after the 44-16 beat down in the championship game. He promised that Bama players would immediately get back to work and would work harder in the Spring. Respectfully, Coach Saban may wish to consider putting some more "fun" in his program. Guess it's hard to teach an old elephant new tricks - and at this stage of his life, he is who he is. Savvy recruits should read up on CW42 (with a bachelors & masters in 4 years) and freshman OT Jackson Carman who is discovering big-man water sports on the most beautiful lake (Keowee) in the country. Yes, you can enjoy your college experience, get a degree or degrees, become a man on and off the field, and still win big over Bama in college playoffs. Family vs. Factory. - As for learning from asst. coaches, OC's and DC's, signing with Bama is like playing coordinator and asst. coach roulette. Sign with Saban, and both the recruits and Saban will discover who their asst coaches will be sometime in the Jan timeframe after the recruits have signed a 3-4 year commitment to Bama. And then a year later, they will discover who their next asst coaches will be and so on year after year. Good luck with that! Meanwhile, Coach Swinney and Coach Venables, with their young undergrad sons at Clemson, will continue to offer continuity in leadership. - With the high number of Bama starters that have played in the NFL (approx. 41% since 2006), Bama deserves credit for improving their recent graduation rates, at least temporarily, to the 80 percentile last year. Still behind Clemson but respectable. (UGA is another story. At 53%, the 2nd worst graduation rate in Power Five behind only Oklahoma State). - The bottom-line is these recruits and their families are smart, and they're doing their homework. This is why Coach Swinney, with his authenticity and his high standards, has been so successful recruiting high character players and families. Again, it's Family vs. Factory. Clemson was a special place before Swinney arrived, and Swinney and has made it more special.
So good luck with your decisions recruits. Make the best choice for you and your future. And go Tigers!

Great comparison but history shows Bama just gets the best year in and year out. I think this National Championship will pay big dividends if we are to stay on top through this season,

I see no reason why Bama won't have, not just 5*s, but the #1 player at every position. Offense and Defense. All 22. Plus special teams, except PK (because, well, it's Bama).
And still lose to Clemson.

Maybe, just maybe... they weren't #1s after all. It comes

down to results, not 'ratings'... team over individuals.
And they will continue to lose to Clemson.

Glad we don't have to worry about the same for the next 19 years. I'm not being arrogant about Dabo staying that long, it's just that I think he will retire here and I'm humbled that he is our coach.

SocMan2® Great points!
It use to be; Bamer is where you go if you are wanting to be prepared for the league. Perhaps his staff use to prepare you as a football player. I know his S & C coordinator gets a ton of attention and is a main reason recruits choose Bamer!
Typically kids who "know day one" they are using college as a springboard to the league choose Bamer! And, of course, you have the coaching legend who coached in the league. Who had won it all at LSU.
Anti-recruiting techniques against Clemson "HAD BEEN" oh, it was a fluke win. It was a one time deal. They had a once in a generation QB and that's why they won. Now that CU has not just duplicated another playoff earned NC; but did so in dominating fashion; the junk recruiting won't work as well.
Parents and Coaches who don't look into the way Clemson prepares a kid beyond the football field is doing the kid a huge disservice. Some of the things kids have the opportunity to take advantage of as a Clemson football player is just phenomenal. And the Clemson fan base and alumni and staff op to bottom should be very proud. You don't get that everywhere!
And oh BTW, "Clemson players are no stranger to the NFL"! The Tigers put players in the league too; w/o the scowl. W/O all the drama. W/O the factory mentality. It's kind of like choosing to was your clothes with some regular Gain vs. some Gain plus wrinkle guard.
If you get the same fresh scent and cleaned clothes; why would you not choose the one that has the extra ability? That extra something that helps you along the way?

Don't fear Bama. OU and Riley will be our biggest challenge.

Bama is done. Saban conceded by the 2nd quarter of the championship game. If it weren't for brain fart (Smart)/youthful ignorance (Riley) coaching decisions Bama would have lost before the championship game and not even played us. Saban had no answers on 1/7/2019. And his players quit. The bully has been beaten and we won't see him again.
Riley, like a young Dabo, is learning the ropes and he will be back. Kids that don't want to come South to ply will go to OU. Once he gets a defense going (and I bet he will), OU will be a real threat.

The next time Bama could be in the playoff when Clemson does NOT have Trevor Lawrence at QB and Justyn Ross at WR (assuming both leave after their junior seasons), Saban will already be 70 years old.
Good luck grabbing that seventh title, Nick.

All great points. Also, Dabo expects/demands that his players work hard on the field AND in the classroom. Let’s be honest, the best players are not always a fit for Dabo’s program BUT Dabo has managed to recruit talented, high character kids who are coachable and who want to work hard. Winning championships is fun but graduating young men of character is important and transcends a single season. All In! Go Tigers!
