what do you guys do? draw it with a pencil first, or print out a stencil/drawing and trace it on ?

In the past, I just print out a paw or other Clemson design,

Get one of the carving kits. I print, tape to the pumpkin and use an awl to poke holes around the edges of the at tern through the paper into the pumpkin. Remove paper, connect dots with a pen, carve with implement of your choice. The little saws in the kits are great.

You know you've raised a real tiger fan when you ask your son what he wants his cub scout pinewood derby car to be and he says a Tiger!

awesome, thanks***

I find a paw stencil and resize it as appropriate, then tape it to the pumpkin and use a thumbtack or one of the "poking tools" in those cheap pumpkin carving kits to poke lots of little holes into the pumpkin skin, enough that I can see the paw design. Then I just cut away with one of the little saws. Works great, have done it for 6-7 years now.

This is the stencil I use (saves ink to print out a hollow one):

Use a Tiger Rag as basis for stencil. It is the Original!

Follow these steps:
1. Use a Tiger Rag.
2. Tap it to a large window, sliding glass door, something with light behind it.
3. Tape 2 pieces of white paper together.
4. Tape paper over the Tiger Rag. Trace Tiger Paw onto paper.
5. Cut lid onto pumpkin, remove and scoop out.
6. Tape paper onto the pumpkin.
7. Take an ice pick, pencil, pointed object and pierce the outline of the paper Tigerpaw onto the pumpkin. Don't go more than 1/16" between points.
8. Use Pumpkin carving kit - the saws both big and small and carve away!
9. Use candle, light and enjoy the compliments from fans and the irritation it will cause the coots!
