Clemson fans acting overconfident to compete in BIG XII

YES, an ACC TITLE is awesome, but apparently folks are forgetting how the Tigers almost folded the tent up near the end of the season. The #5 ranking came on the coattails of a somewhat novelty offense catching folks by surprise...and then crashing as others did.
To go from what everyone nationally calls "an inferior football conference" that we have had only slightly above average results in over the last 10 years, to one that typically has a national power rating MUCH higher makes me wonder why people think this is a good idea.
Yes, recruiting has been greatly improved & Coach Morris has added spark to the offense & Coach Venables should do the same....BUT, this is like the JV playing against the VARSITY every game. What used to be the Tigers toughest game in the past will most likely be on par with their easiest in the BIG XII and IMO, this is a bad move for the Tigers if it should happen.

that's irrelevant. at the start of the season, b4

any games are played, in the ACC, we'd be at a disadvantage.
obviously, we have to win but when you are at a disadvantage even b4 the season starts, that's not a good place to be.

Is the Big XII the best case scenario? No but it's better than staying in the ACC for sure.

Fix the ACC, get much better & earn national respect

would be much more realistic. As much as I hate Notre Dame, get them and Penn State & shut up all the critics and be done with all the rumors and nonsense. Moving on to a conference where you're gonna be 5th or 6th seed on any given year is not what fans are going to support. Barker, the BOT & TDP may like the TV payday, but in 5 or 6 years when "DEATH VALLEY" refers to the crowd at Memorial Stadium being 30,000 strong, you'll get it.

there wouldn't be any rumors if we weren't seriously considering the move to the Big 12. The ACC can't be fixed if John Swofford is commissioner, and John Swofford will never be forced it. So it's impossible to fix a conference whole cares about Duke and UNC.

ACC gets fixed if the football schools, Va Tech, Miami, FSU, and Clemson put better teams on the field.
Every conference out there has their Duke's and Virginia's and they seem to be okay... Pac 10 has WSU and Oregon State.
Big 10 has Indiana and Purdue... Sec has Vandy and USC
Big 12 has Kansas and Iowa state...
What has caused the slide in the ACC is the top of the conference has not performed.
Whose fault is that? Honestly... why have FSU, Miami and Clemson slipped?? (Va tech gets a pass as they are the most consistent ACC team)
It's not money... the money disparity is just starting to be realized the last couple of years. Granted, if not addressed that can become a huge problem, but, that isn't why we are where we are at the moment.
Interested to hear your take on why the top of the football ACC has fallen short??

FSU - kept Bobby Bowden too long. All his good assistant coaches went elsewhere.
Clemson - too many low ball tries to replace Danny. School is still out on Dabo, reguardless what you think on here. We kept Tommy too long also. Unknown is, what would have happened if Danny had stayed? We all have opinions, but no one really knows....
Maimi - too many coaching changes as well as internal control. Wait until the hammer falls on them. Bet it won't be like the coots and Tarholes.

that is very easy to say but just how does the ACC do that??why would Penn State leave the Big 10 and take $10mil less to come to the ACC and HOPE things would improve???and that goes for ND also???it just is not going to happen...lets just win all our games!! easy to say but how do we do that???? thats as easy as getting Penn State and ND in the ACC

Why would moving to the BXII cause only 30,000 people to show up in the Valley? Do you honestly believe that more Clemson fans would rather see us stomp BC than play a tough game against WVU?
Why do some of you have so little faith in our current leadership?
Do you really believe they would force us to put a less than competitive team on the field? How is that good for them? What do they gain by that? Take a look at assistant coaches - notice who pays theirs more than anyone?
We may not win the conference the first few years, but we won't be their version of Duke' either.

As long as there is Kansas football...nobody has anything to worry about being at the bottom.

The demise of Clemson's season in season was Clemson's fault. No one else. Elevating the competition for Clemson will help immensely.

I am 100% confident the Tigers can compete in the Big12

No one is suggestioning Clemson will win the conference but compete, yes.
Over time more money, more exposure & opening fertile recuiting grounds will elevate the program.
My analogy is SCAR. They were HORRIBLE when they joined the SEC. It took them almost 2 decades but now not only are they competing but won the SEC East.
No Clemson is not on par with a top 5 Oklahoma but we are starting WAY ahead of where SCAR was when they joined the SEC. We just won the ACC & have been competing for division titles for a decade. So we start middle of the pack in the Big 12....give us half the time it took SCAR & we will be competing at the upper echelon of the Big 12.
If you don't believe this way then why be a fan?

You sound like a gamecock fan and that means you sound dumb. The novelty offense thing is beyond dumb. Gus Malzhan and Morris run very very similiar offenses and Malzhan was at Auburn for 3 years and his offense was pretty good and last year he didnt have alot of talent on offense. Plus when a team loses its starting left tackke it is going to struggle. If there is an issue with Clemson moving to the big 12 it will be expenses. Clemson traditionally plays up to or down to its competition. Clemson may not be a perennial big 12 champ but i do believe they would get better.

years, you expect this team to be bad and 2 of the best coordinators. Get real dude. We got rid of the reason why we fell apart at the end of the season and that was Kevin Steele.

you are drinking.
Clemson can compete. We didn't just smash VT at home-something no one does in the ACC--but we smashed them twice. Add to that quality wins over FSU and Auburn. Did we have growning pains?--heck yes!--but this isn't your decade long disapointing Tommy Bowden team--it is improving and will be even better this season. Now wipe that red stuff off your mouth.
GO TIGERS!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the last decade I have painfully watched my Tigers play to thier level of competition. Other than a handful of games here and there, Its always competitive and we win more than we lose. We ARE a competitive team and we WILL be competitve in any conference, its not like were carolina....geez.

The offense wasn't a "novelty" that others were able to adjust to. It was more effective in the ACC CG against VT at the end of the season than it was in the 1st game againt them, and they were the only team to see it twice and have one of the best DCs in the business. It scored a ton of points in the first half of the Orange Bowl even with WVU moving the ball at will.
I think you're blind if you don't see that the Tigers are on the rise in a hurry. The recruiting and offense have picked up, and I'm confident Venables' system will make a big improvement on the defensive side.
The Big 12 is better in football than the ACC, but to say that the best ACC teams are no better than the worst Big 12 teams is just crazy. It sounds like you just don't like the idea of moving so you're making up anything you can to justify staying in the ACC.

Agreed in many many ways.... People aren't thinking about the whole picture here. If we take care of business in the ACC like we should we can compete for any championship.... People seem to forget about the other inter-collegiate sports also, what is the extensive travel going to do with all of that?
