Clemson and the ACC

Jun 27, 2012, 7:30 PM

If Clemson goes 13-0 and wins the ACC and does not get into the new four-team playoff, it will be interesting to see what the adminstration does regarding conference alignment. I know the new format takes into consideration being a conference champion. The record would be great, but the strength of schedule would work against them. It's hard to wow people with victories over Wake Forest, Maryland, Duke, Syracuse, etc. Clemson could be the big fish in a small pond with no place to go. I guess time will tell.

Perhaps BUT it depends on how highly FSU, VT, GT, or UNC

are ranked when Clemson plays them(or any of the ACC teams). We are at a disadvantage here but this does not worry me as much as the money issue.

For the ACC to gain any respect:
1. Have two or three teams that are consistant every year (finishing withing the top 10 or 15).
2. Prove they can play on a national stage with other conferences. That means beating those teams during the regualar season or in a bowl game...mostly a BCS bowl game. The problem will lie with the ACC going to 9 conference games and that will effect a lot of schedules.

Until then, I see a ACC team having to go undefeated to be considered for a playoff game. I see it as a one and done.

Only if one of those 13 wins is against the SEC champion.

only if a 12-0 or 13-0 from the PAC 12, SEC, B1G, or Big 12 is not number one, two, or both.

What a stupid post, hello we play 2 sec teams the next 3 years. And a 13-0 ACC champ will get the nod over a 12-0 big 12 champ b/c we played more games.

Lets say If Texas or OU is at 12-0 and number 2 in the rankings...they will play for the NC.

Playing 2 SEC teams in the next three years is great but when you play 8 average or below teams...it hurts.

You only have to look at last year to see where we would be VT was in the top 5 up until the ACCCG and would have moved up to at least 4 or 3 if they won the ACC with the one loss. So a 1 loss ACC Champion soul have made it to the 4 team playoff. VT didn't even beat a ranked team lost year. their most impressive win was against East Carolina. IMHO
