Clemson Basketball....

Nov 21, 2014, 4:52 PM

Clemson should limit its investment in basketball. Some of the money spent on both the men's and women's basketball should be redirected to other sports (volley ball, women's golf, start a softball team). While I enjoy basketball, no one will ever convince me that Clemson will ever be competitive for an ACC championship much less a deep run into the tournament.

It's nothing against Brownell and he seems like a great guy. As parity in basketball continues to grow, it will be the greatest challenge to fielding a competitive team. I just believe those financial resources could be put to better use.

All those other sports you mentioned lose money.

Men's Basketaball actually makes money I believe.

Although someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank goodness we share in the basketball TV money earned

Nov 21, 2014, 5:06 PM

by Duke, Louisville, and UNC.

I'm not advocating abolishing the program.

I just think we need to limit how much we invest it. Those other sports will never make money. Our contribution to the basketball TV contract is to give Duke, UNC, and Louisville someone to play.

Kind of reverse for Duke, UNC and Wake when comes to football.

Basketball took a net loss of ($372,826) last year. But relatively speaking, on revenues of nearly $7,918,222, they are close to breaking even/making money.

But for all the complainers (not you JFB) don't let facts get in the way of your thoughts on limiting our contribution to basketball or not building a new arena that is geared towards making the fan experience and thus attendance better, as well as putting a focus on premier donor areas to increase booster funding.

I swear people just make stuff up to make themselves feel better about their negativity towards a particular athletics program/staff.

Meant to say we played for an ACC championship back in 2008.

We need to scrap basketball altogether if what we have

Nov 21, 2014, 6:29 PM

seen in the last 2 games has become acceptable in any shape, form, or fashion. I mean that in all seriousness; if our standards aren't nay higher than that, then we should hang it up.

If we are going to keep basketball, which I hope we do, we have to set clear, high expectations, give somebody the tools to make it happen, then turn it over to them and set the clock. Enough with the excuses. Just do it.
