Changed alternator in le Pilot yesterday.

Apr 16, 2020, 3:52 PM

Probably could have done it by myself in 45 minutes if there was another 3" of room between the radiator fan housing to operate, but instead, it took a buddy and I about 4 hours (including driving back to Advance because they gave me the rong alternator, which also sucked, since the rong one was $91 and the actual one was like $280). Anyway, put it all back together, jumped dead battery, and let it run for 20 minutes while we had celebratory cocktails. Turned engine off...wouldn't restart. If I killed the battery, too, I might hurt somebody.

Jumped it again this afternoon and took the kids out joyriding with all the windows down on a beautiful day. Ran it for 45 minutes, and...battery is now charged.

Do you like cool stories? I have more. All you gotta do is ask.

My dad was bringing down a trailer to help me move. I get a call that he is some place outside of Summerville. Alternator is shot. I get to where he is, which is somehow half an hour away from an auto parts store. We tell the dude what we need, he asks an odd question or two and we are on our way. Old off, new on, can't get the belt over it for nothing. Try this for way too long. I think back to his odd questions and suggest we take the thing off. I then compared the two and it was right shape wrong size.

Remember those odd questions? It turns out that the guy though having power windows on a 90s Silverado meant it got the Suburban alternator.
