you, it's no different there. even amongst friends we would talk about "yankees" and southerners, i guess being so close to nyc they have embraced the whole yankee tag. i would go to a bar and the local patrons would get me talking just to poke fun at my accent (the females loved it). both my sons started elementary school up there, and they wanted my oldest to take speech lessons just because of his accent, and he was an a-b student- true story. so it's not just a southern or regional thing.
