2018 Baseball Committments

Jun 7, 2017, 6:53 PM

Ok, it's slow till the ALL IN Cookout. Here are the 2018 commits for baseball. I see 4 pitchers, two lefties, two righties, and FIVE shortstops. Four of these guys are 6-4. Not sure how many of these will be drafted or show up at Clemson.
Lots of bodies coming in the next two years. Should be fun watching the new talent mature and get coached up. A LOT of SC boys in this class, 8 of 15 from the Palmetto state.

Adam Hackenberg. -- Catcher 6-1 215 Palmyra VA Fork Union
Bryar Hawkins. -- Shortstop 6-2 180 ####### GA
Chad Fairey. -- 2nd Base 6-0 170 Greenwood SC Ninety Six

One of the commentators from the regionals said it best concerning baseball recruits: You have a serious choice to make, spend the next 3-5 years getting the college experience or riding a bus from game to game as a professional in the minors (I believe he omitted first rounders, not sure).

If I'm 18, and have a chance to go to Clemson, the minors can wait.

Yep, Meredith is 2017 and will be an instant starter if he doesn't go pro. A true demon on the base paths.

Reports are that Gobin is a pitcher. 9-1 his senior year at Summerville with an era of .68. He enrolled in June 2016. Why did he not play this year?

I pulled this off the tiger site. If he enrolled in 2016, it's news to me.

Did he commit in 2016 or enroll. Either way, he will be a welcome addition.

Chad Fairey has a lot of power for a second baseman and has

Jun 8, 2017, 7:00 AM

a good lineage. His grandfather (Jim Fairey) played at Erskine and in the major leagues for the Dodgers and Expos. His dad (Clint Fairey) play at Western under Jack Leggett and won Conference play of the year 3 years in a row. His uncle (Burke Fairey) was my roommate and teammate at Clemson in the mid-80s.

And as a side note, Jim Fairey lives in Clemson, and was a scout for the Texas Rangers, and signed Monte Lee back in 2000. Monte still visits and talks to Jim about hitting quite a bit.

Back in 1968/1969 I lived in Greenwood. I had just completed the ninth grade when I got the news my family was moving to Aiken. I was CRUSHED!
Local coaching football legend Gary Roper, who knew I was a FANATICAL Dodger fan, got me an autographed baseball signed by the whole team!
He had played ball with Jim Fairey(playing for the Dodgers at that time) at Erskine. Well, that eased the pain of moving somewhat and is a prized possession of mine to this day.
May God bless my friend Coach Roper!
