Catch Out Of Bounds by Ohio State - ?

Dec 29, 2019, 2:02 PM

I have played/watched a bunch of football. I don't recall a catch where they ruled the hand being down was okay for a catch. If that's the case - teach the WR's to secure it - tuck it tight - place the off-hand in bounds before the rest of the body hits out of bounds on sideline catches.

Most of the time it's all about where the feet are when the receiver hits.

I know an elbow means you are down as a runner - so it makes sense - don't get me wrong - I get it. My commentary is just that - most of the time it's all about where the feet are when the WR comes down.

Crazy call.

**While I am at it - I thought AJ and DK had super tight coverage all night on their WR's. Those guys just caught some very contested balls when they did complete them. Shout out to the CB's man - good job guys!

Yea that one is bs.

If you put your hand down when running, you are not down. Yet putting your hand down in bounds on a catch is down? His foot came down out of bounds before his elbow did, but his hand hit first.

Putting your hand down does not mean you are “down” as you correctly stated, it does mean though you have established your position in bounds. This rarely happens but it is the rule.

Not BS...was the correct call. It doesn’t have to be feet that land inbounds...could be hand, shoulder, head, etc.

That would require the hands being the closest body part to the ground. How often is that the case?

i'd say its much more natural to use both hands to secure the ball and use a foot or two to stay in bounds. That catch was as unusual and unnatural as it comes in football.
