Can we win without throwing the ball other than jet sweeps?

Dec 10, 2014, 10:38 AM

Do we have to pass to win or can we just run the ball and punt it when we have to?

Is a pick worse than a punt?

Baylor just threw a bunch of horizontal passes

Dec 10, 2014, 11:32 AM

I watched a good bit of the Baylor/ OU game when Baylor beat them 48- 14 and threw for 396 yards while holding OU to 319 total yards. All Baylor did the entire game was throw little WR screens and horizontal passes because OU was playing too far off the ball. Then when they would move up to the line, there was always somebody open downfield. In fact, one WR had 15 catches for over 200 yards and Petty was 16/17 while OU was playing off the receivers. This was a game in which Baylor was actually down 14-3 midway through the second quarter, but the Bears went on to score the next 45 points.

I don't know if OU will back off of our WRs if they think Stoudt can't throw downfield, but he seems plenty capable of throwing the ball along the line of scrimmage like Baylor did successfully.

The Georgia Tech game made me doubt whether or not

Dec 10, 2014, 11:51 AM

Cole could handle even those kinds of passes. He doesn't seem to react to opponents standing between him and the receiver.

But, that is probably our best bet if Cole is our only option at QB. Get the ball to our playmakers near the line of scrimmage and hope they can make a play. If not, drop back and punt and hope our defense can hold and live to fight another day.

GT was ready for the bubble screens

Dec 10, 2014, 11:53 AM

It was basically the only thing we were throwing, it doesn't take a genius of a DC to figure out to anticipate the screens.

The running game has to work better than it did at GT, or they're just going to do what GT did.

When you consider the throws that our quarterback can

Dec 10, 2014, 12:02 PM

make that are not high risk interception possibilities, what are you left with? With such a limited repertoire of passing options, it would be practically impossible to be unpredictable in the passing game. Someone mentioned how he has thrown so many first down picks, the most unpredictable down in football.

The running game against SC is not a good indicator of what we can expect against Oklahoma's run defense.
