Calculating Feaster's 40 yrd time from his State Track
Feb 6, 2015, 8:39 AM
|
|
Numbers, help me if i messed up.
Feaster ran a 10.59 s, 100 m for a 9.44 m/s time converted to yds/sec it is 10.32 yds/sec his 40 yd dash time based on that would be 10.32/40 = .258 inverse seconds so one takes 1/.258 = 3.88 sec 40 yd time.

I'm a track coach and was at the meet and saw him run. Very impressive. Although a kid from 3a, bacon from LR ran a faster time, feaster was very impressive as a sophomore. Best part saw Clemson coaches, one was Scott there supporting him. Dedication from coaches wins kids over. Great to be a tiger.

if you were serious, you would have to know how long it took him to get to top speed from a dead start. The way you calculated it, you averaged out his acceleration period over the whole 100-meters. I read that world class sprinters don't reach top speed until 50-60 meters into race. In a 40-yard dash, he is likely still accelarating. This accounts for why his 40 time is likely 4.2 to 4.5-seconds.

I have a buddy in the upstate that coached against him this past season. He is a former college player and someone who's opinion I trust very much in every matter but especially more in football. His words were that Feaster is the greatest high school running back he has ever coached, coached against, or witnessed in person. This is a guy that has coached against or witnessed in person Marcus Lattimore, Derick Watson, Demetrius Summers, Andre Ellington, and a little known but amazing high school RB Lejerrick Cannon from Greer in the mid 90s. Easter is a stud and we are very blessed to have him!

Spiller's personal best in the 100m was 10.22s. His 40yd at the NFL combine was 4.37s.
The reality here is that a 100m time can not be accurately "mathed" down to show a true 40yd time. We're all slaves to inertia. Over a distance of 100m, a human being is at top speed longer than he would be than in a simple 40yd dash. It takes time to come up to full speed.
Based on these 100m times alone, it looks as if Spiller is probably slightly faster than Feaster. Spiller was also known as a guy who could run well in pads. But it should be mentioned that Spiller's personal best time was recorded while he ran track at Clemson, so it's likely that Feaster's speed may increase after a couple more years of training and growth.

Is that when he is in full stride, the guy only takes 2 or MAYBE 3 steps within the 5 yd lines. It looks like he just glides down the field.

One massive problem
Feb 6, 2015, 9:38 AM
|
|
a 100 meter dash has a much longer distance for him to get to full speed. The first 50 meters of his 100 meter dash are significantly slower because of this.

Three guys rented a room for thirty dollars...
Feb 6, 2015, 12:27 PM
|
|
And the manager realized he had over charged them by 5$ b/c the room was only $25. He only had five dollars to split three ways so he gave each a dollar and he kept the other two 'cause they said it was "OK". So they each paid $9 each for the room, which is $27, and the other 2 that went to the manager makes $29. Where'd the missing dollar go?

I guess if he hit full speed in the first nano second and maintained that exact delta throughout the entire 100m, this would be a good way to measure this.

what you have is variable acceleration, which makes every runner's equation different. Take a calculus course and it might make more sense.

Fastest time ever recorded in the 40...
Feb 6, 2015, 7:18 PM
|
|
The fastest time ever recorded in the NFL combine since they started using a laser is 4.24. Someone ran a 4.26 in last years combine. Jacoboy ford ran a 4.28 and he was one of the fastest men in the world. CJ Spiller ran a 4.37 at the combine officially. I swear though, Spiller looked faster than Ford to me on the field. Anyway, can't wait to see Feaster play. He has the best hands of a RB that I have ever seen. He can do it all it seems. I just watched his videos though. He looks like he could be one of the best WR's in the nation too if he wanted to be.
