Seen any real mention today of remembrance of D-DAY?

Jun 6, 2013, 12:55 PM

I know...it was war, a long time ago..and who cares since wars are bad..but glad many nations decided to get it together to make sure a bad guy in Hitler didn't go any further with his personal agenda of taking over the World!

Thanks to all those truly brave & heroic men who stormed those beaches on this day 60+ years ago! Thanks Guys, and I do remember!

GoTiGERs!

AMC is showing The Green Berets, followed by Stripes.

Nothing says D-Day remembrance like a Vietnam war movie, followd by a good lampooning of the army.

History Channel succumbed to the "ESPN effect," in which they once created a superior product but now try and appeal to every dumbarse in the country.

It made me think of some of the things my father told me about serving in the Korean war.

That Omaha Beach scene was hard to take.

My dad delivered troops to Omaha Beach via LST that day. I never realized how important that was until after he passed a few years ago. He seldom ever mentioned it and somehow it never seemed to bother him in any way. Now I watch those films often, and am very thankful for everything our troops did to halt Hitler.

Jun 6, 2013, 5:41 PM

he never talked about it and after he passed away he left me his silver star, purple heart and other items. I read his journal all the time and I cant imagine going through the horrors he went through, from d-day, Bastogne, and finally to Germany. So proud of my papas service!

My Dad was tank machine gunner..and didn't talk about it til

Jun 6, 2013, 7:53 PM

he was 82..and that his tank squadron was in France, Belgium & Germany (at Battle of the Bulge)..and that he had it made since tanks had A/C & Heat from engine..but he had to lay on a flat board on his back all day..peering out a hole to see in front of tank to shoot his machine gun.

Had trained in Texas to be a gunner in a bomber plane but when he got to Europe they had too many..so dropped him off one morning at 5AM near a line of hedge trees and told him to go knock on a particular tank and tell them he was their gunner replacement..and when he did they just about shot him thinking he was a German!

Thanks DAD for your service to America! RIP too.

A hero laid to rest...

Jun 6, 2013, 8:46 PM

Today Roy Waldrop, a member where I attend church, was laid to rest. Roy was on the last wave of LST's to land.

Roy couldn't swim and he told the story that if it weren't for the dead soldiers in the water he would've drowned trying to make it to shore because of how far back his LST had to drop its hatch.

Roy would tell you that the Lord Jesus watched over him and was very thankful for that.

God bless Roy and all the other American heros who paid the ultikate price that fateful day.
