Happier topic...I'm looking to spend $1000 or so on myself

Jun 9, 2020, 11:17 AM

for my birthday. things I've considering - a new bicycle, a gaming system of some sort, stereo equipment, trading in the Orange car for something else (that would obviously be more than $1000, but you know. whatev), new appliance for the house (boring)...

As you can see, I'm struggling for ideas. What other colossal wastes of money are there out there? note: I purchased a new grill in March. So that's off the list.

go to some super-expensive restaurant and go all out. Way long ago, around 1980, I won a $100 gift card to a ritzy Houston restaurant. They had peacocks wandering around the tables. I took a date and we spent way over the gift card. Back then it was a challenge to spend over $100 on a meal for 2. But I still remember it.

Jun 9, 2020, 11:44 AM

So much stuff you can get to add onto the grill depending on make/model. I know some of the griller/smokers on here have the Meater thermometers. I think they've upgraded them for distance etc. I think Father G® has one maybe. Or get a separate pizza oven like an Ooni.

My go to for self indulgence tends to be food/cooking related.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Did you get a green egg?

Jun 9, 2020, 11:45 AM

Because if not, you don't have a grill yet.

Just kidding. A bike will run more than that for a good one. A gaming system will be outdated by Christmas. If you go stereo, go Sonos. I've got two of the little ones on the covered patio and I can scare golfers if I crank them up. Tremendous bass from two little speakers. And with a grand, you could get a couple Sonos ones and a sub and be in heaven sonically.

That just about sums it up.

It's probably been 20 years since I had a drum set. My last one had pre-tuned snap-on heads that I bought for next to nothing at a yard sale. I'm not a drummer, but I love thrashing away at them. I actually thought really hard about snagging the Tama cocktail set that my buddy's music store had on sale for $299 last week.
