Extra credit for getting Death Valley correctly identified

Aug 17, 2018, 12:56 PM

as being in Clemson, SC and correctly using Tiger Stadium for LSU.

Imo, that was better than coming in first.

I still would like to know what that Miami game way back registered. Still think it was louder than the one we are on record for.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Miami 2005 was 125 dB.

Aug 17, 2018, 3:18 PM

That was on the 3rd down stop late in the game before we got the ball back and tied it to go to OT. I've read that Boston College 2007 registered even louder than Miami, but being at both games Miami definitely sounded louder to me, but I was in the student section for the Miami game so that may have a lot to do with it.

yeah, the 2007 Boston College game is the one of that record above. But I'm like you, I'd have swore the Miami game was louder than that one.

Miami 2005 was the absolute loudest ball game I’ve ever attended! It took days for my hearing to recover. The friend I took still talks about that game to this day.

That contest is undoubtedly the record for Death Valley.

Go Tigers ??!!

Great info and thanks for sharing. I would not have guessed Washington #1.

Washington stadium has something to do with it's shape and location which causes sound waves to echo and makes it louder. I was shocked by that too so looked it up a few years back.

Very true 74. And that was before Death Valley became really, really loud. I agree with a previous poster. The Miami game was the loudest that I remember and I go waaaay back!

I was at that one and it was ear splitting. I thought it was the 132 number but I'm not sure

I recall as a student, the fans being warned with a delay of game call. Back then the QB could step out from under center and cry to the official they can't communicate with the other players, snap count, change the play...

Who remembers the game (76 or77) where after we were warned, we shhhed so loud we disrupted the other team. I remember the instance but not the game.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I remember it, I don't remember who we were playing.***

I guess LSU can no longer claim “Deaf Valley” either.

LSU is “Deaf Valley” traditionally and ESPN and CBS should constantly remind them that there is only one Death Valley, the Home of the Clemson Tigers!

As soon as we put a roof over the North and South Upper Decks, like Washington did, we'll pass them too.

That roof is urgly. But Union Bay and with the boats... not bad at all.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Having been there in person...

Aug 17, 2018, 3:25 PM

You are right. Really awesome scenery there at Washington's stadium.

And we need to add about 10,000 seats in the east end zone behind the hill.

Pretty impressive for some of those stadiums that

Aug 17, 2018, 2:17 PM

have about half to 3/4 of the seating capacity.

Chris Rix said death valley was a lot louder than the swamp @ Florida?

It's cool to see the proof.
