What were the circumstances about transfer QB David Olson?

He transferred to Clemson for his Senior year from Stanford but played sparingly in 2014.

Depth guy/practice arm after Chad Kelly got dismissed. If I recall correctly he went to high school in the Columbia area and wanted to move closer to home.

Correct. He was actually a grad transfer

and Dabo is buddies with Shaw so he would have known what he was getting. I think Olson even got a little practice time with the Ravens

He had a scholarship. Smart person. Helped Clemson as a backup and analyst in the film room. Plus we needed depth big time that season.
