Can anyone of you recommend a fair table saw?

The reviews for the Harbor Freight one were disappointing in that they all said you pretty well get what you pay for.

For what type of work.

I have owned two in my life;

A $300-400 porter cable unit with the folding legs and all that and a mid-90's Delta Unisaw that I bought on CL for $500 a few months back.

The PC model is completely useless. Cheap. Loud. Inaccurate. Not stable enough to do any signifcant work. You're better off with a circular saw and a miter saw.

Unisaw - easily a $3000-$4000 unit when new. Probably weighs 600lbs. 3HP motor. Will last for ever. Ripping full sheets of marine plywood is a 1 man operation. Blade is true within a few thousandths. Getting it for $500 was a steal and a half. I adore this thing.

Doesn't have to be anything crazy.

I intend to try and build and sell bird houses, either assembled or in a kit as a craft for kids. IF this works I'll get new/better saws. If it doesn't work I'll at least have something enjoyable to do that gets me off the couch.

That table saw won't keep you off the couch.

But it will make nice place to stack various cans of WD-40, Spray paint, boxes of nails and a hammer or two after you don't use it for a while.

But I'll just sit there and use it, with various saws

and do a poor job of building stuff.

I came across a free table saw from the 90s and

May 26, 2020, 12:48 PM

built up a bench around it for outfeed. Got a new blade from direct tools for $23 and aligned it square to the miter tracks.

It cuts well enough for anything I need. Make you a good sled and it doesn’t really matter what brand you pick.

Just buy you a craftsman or delta used.

May 26, 2020, 2:06 PM

Usually around $75-150 on FB marketplace. Worth a gamble over the HF stuff
