CBB has to be able to secure solid recruits and with expectations of another NCAA appearance his program will take another step in the right direction. His hiring of two coaches, one to entirely focus upon recruiting, tells me he understands the changing nature of the game and the type of players Clemson has to have annually to compete. Having quality facilities has already made a significant difference in interest. Having a staff with tenure and stability also has made a huge impact upon recruiting behind the scenes. Winning just makes matters better.

Coach Brownell will likely be a candidate for other jobs, despite some fan opinions, after next year if his team competes in the tournament successfully so the BOT and Drad are smart to proceed with a revised contract.

Go Tigers!

Brownell has understood those things for a long time.

Our administration took a few years to get on board, but they finally did with the new facilities and now with additional budget allocated for assistant coaches and support staff.

Remember back when we all were very unhappy with the condition that our BB program was in. Most of everyone that really knows the ins and outs of basketball were saying that our program would need a good coach that was allowed 6 to 8 years to get our program to be a top 5 or 6 in the ACC, and nobody saw that ever happening after Cuse, Pitt, and L-ville joining the ACC with their BB powers, and we were still getting beat up by Tobacco Rd. Well, Brownell through very tough times and being beat up and beat down by most of the fan base. Brownell was siting in the hot seat in the eyes of the media and our fan base most of his time at Clemson.

Here is what we are looking like at this point 9 years down the road under Brownell. Brownell has brought our dreadful BB program out of the dungeons to the point of having a foundation under it by bringing in solid players, and not necessarily super star players but solid players that are teachable, and now we are heading in the right direction. And I think that if Brad can continue an upward climb with the program even if its slow climbing, and getting our team in the NCAA tournament, we might just get lucky enough to see a McDonald's all American player come in and help to get our program on an even stronger foundation. Kids these days are starting to be OK with helping to build something new at other programs that hasn't always been on top!!! And they aren't needing to play at programs that have already been built.

I'm glad that Brownell got a new contract, and hopefully he can continue on with what he has started with our Clemson Basketball program, and I wish only the best for him and his family while they are representing Clemson University!!!! Go Brad, Go Tigersssss, and it's good when our the three major college sports are doing good... Now hopefully our women's softball program can get off on a good start. I am a women's softball fan!!!

Congrats Coach.
That is quite a nice reward for ONE good season.

It was the best season we had in 20 years, are you saying it

Jul 19, 2018, 11:24 AM

shouldn't be rewarded?

He's saying it probably should be weighted with the one and done appearances, including the recent embarrassing NIT loss. But go ahead, breakout your pom poms

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

So I shouldn't celebrate a Sweet 16 finish, even though we

Jul 19, 2018, 10:46 PM

have only been to 3 before this year's finish? Where are your pom-poms?

Certainly congrats are in order. BB did exceed expectations bringing Tiger basketball back to the NCAA tourney and improving recruiting, the building block for the future. Congrats to the BOT for seeing what the future may hold to get us to the next level. Sure there's no guarantee, but it's a good start, just like with Dabo 10 or so years ago. Go Tigers.

Congratulations B.B., now get out there and fine good players at lower tier universities. Tongue in cheek, but it has worked so far. Would like to see initial recruiting pick up.

Yes, we will “find” good players. And for goodness sakes I hope we don’t “fine” them. If you don’t think recruiting has picked up, you haven’t been paying attention.

Thanks for the spell-check. Recruiting? Who do we have and don’t talk about transfers.
