Parker: I believe I give this team best chance to win

Kyle Parker sat down to face the media on Tuesday in the WestZone, and was immediately bombarded with questions about sharing some of his duties with backup quarterback Tajh Boyd on Saturday. Full Story »

This is a very strange article.

Apparently Parker has not watched.....

Nov 3, 2010, 1:22 PM

the tape of the Miami, UNC and BC games. Either that, or Boyd is not even remotely close to being ready to play.

This is the media trying to make something out of nothing.

Nov 3, 2010, 5:43 PM

By leaving out part of what Parker really said, it makes us think there is really a story there. But I guess when there is no good football to write about, the media has to make up stories.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Huggins81, this article was written by David

Nov 3, 2010, 7:23 PM

Hood, who according to his byline is Tigernet's senior writer. Now, does it really make sense that he would write an article for Tigernet with deliberate intentions to deceive Tigernet readers? No, it doesn't does it? The only conspiracy here is readers who know nothing of the media profession pretending to be experts on how the media operates. By the way, I'm a journalist and I get back and forth to work in by black helicopter.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I think his point was that Hood's headline was misleading.

Nov 4, 2010, 8:17 AM

The headline makes it sound like Parker is proclaiming that he gives the team the best chance to win. That's called taking something out of context. Here is what Parker said "in context":

“I have had conversations with him, and whenever I sit down, what is communicated to me is that I give this team the best chance to win,” Parker said.

Clearly, Parker made the statement in the context of what the coaches have communicated to him, not in the context of Parker making a general declarative statement about himself.

You, being a journalist, should also know how important it is to attract readers. Did Hood intentionally try to mislead Tigernet readers? I don't know, but it is obvious that the headline was taken completely out of context, and that is bad journalism.

Tough position to be in

Nov 3, 2010, 1:30 PM

I feel for Parker. No, he has not had a great year. Yes, he's made some poor decisions. But, he should not have been in many of the situations where he's had to try to make a play in order for us to win in several of our games. Poor coaching decisions, game planning, and play calling led to this.

Now, we find ourselves in a situation where this season is a dreadful disappointment, and we really must look to the future and get Boyd's feet wet. Conference title hopes are gone, so we must prepare for next year.

I really hate that this year didn't turn out better for Parker, but again, while he hasn't helped his own situation out much, the failure of this season ultimately sits on the shoulders of our coaching staff.

I wish Parker the best and hope he can make the best out of a truly difficult situation.

Re: Tough position to be in

Nov 3, 2010, 4:22 PM

hunter61, I couldn't agree with you more, there are many factors that are culminating towards KP having a bad year.
1-POOR OC, strategy/planning...Napier & Dabo's plans are WORSE thaan ANY High School prgram here in TX, and the Carolina's too if I had to bet.
2-His wide receiver core, up until two games ago couldn't catch a pass or a cold..look at the drops, routing, poor move/spacing issues...no way KP can be successful with that mess going on.
3-Offensive line pass and run blocking have been poor, except for the Auburn game.
4-If the kicking game was worth a toot, we wouldn't have to be forced into herculean plays required by KP.
5-Can't blame KP for the defensive secondary collapses ALL year...they look like pee-wee ball caliber players a lot of the time.
6-Can't blame KP for POOR linebacker play, i.e., too many big plays by running backs and tight ends.
7-What about turnovers, penalties, missed assignments, outside of the QB position?

These shallow Clemson fans that are crucifying Parker are really clueless observers of a mediocre coached and prepared team. It's got nothing to do with his Rockies contract and bank-roll. Payton Manning could be back there, and the Tigers would STILL suffer from all the dysfunction. The program is an embarrasment to the fams and the conference. MAJOR coaching and AD changes are OVERDUE>

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dont feel too bad...KP made more this year...

Nov 3, 2010, 7:13 PM [ in reply to Tough position to be in ]

...than most american households will make in over 20 years.

"Clemson quarterback Kyle Parker has reached a deal with the Colorado Rockies late Monday.According to The Post and Courier (Charleston, S.C.), Parker and Rockies agreed to the deal which included a $1.4 million signing bonus. The biggest part of the deal was the fact that it allows the sophomore to play football for the Tigers this season."

Now the cracks are showing to show - Boyd hears......

Nov 3, 2010, 1:32 PM

one thing and Parker hears another - next will be finger-pointing and backstabbing if it hasn't already begun the happen.

I don't just mean these two guys - I mean the whole team and coaching staff - more and more of this kind of thing's going to happen. This is typical when a program loses its focus, etc.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Boyd heard he would get some playing time

Why did Dabo open up this media circus distraction?

Nov 3, 2010, 1:58 PM

The coaches always say that the players need to stay focused on the next opponent. But they open up this media circus that has surely distracted Parker, Boyd, the coaches, and the other players from the task of beating NCSU. This is an unforced error by Dabo in an effort to save his own butt. It doesn't help the team win. It helps them lose. How pathetic.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Only thing I can think is that it

Nov 3, 2010, 2:08 PM

gives NCSt's d coordinator something else to think about.

But to be honest, I think there is less to this than is buzzing. Parker is still the starter, has been told so. Staff has determined that Boyd needs more experience, and plan to get him in at least some. Boyd ain't replacing Parker.

So what's the big deal?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That is what they said with Korn, that is what they said

Nov 3, 2010, 3:18 PM

at the beginning of the season about Boyd....how many times did we see either?

Did DABO open this up.....

Nov 3, 2010, 2:13 PM [ in reply to Why did Dabo open up this media circus distraction? ]

... or did Boyd leak it? Thought Boyd told the press about the conversation, not DS. Sure, maybe he should have nevr told Boyd, but giving him more reps with the first team would have tipped him off anyway. I don't see this as a Dabo mistake (albeit there are many others.)
