Re: Bidens lead evaporating

Biden's lead has been steadily evaporating ever since the race began.
Because, well, Joe Biden. He didn't win in 1988 because he was Joe Biden, he didn't win in 2008 because he was Joe Biden...and he wasn't going to win in 2020 either. He was the same guy he was in either race - a center-left(ish) business politician of no particular plan, agenda, principle, or conviction, just an all-around all-right guy with a winning confident smile...and, unfortunately, a distinct tendency to say awkward things at bad moments. Which has gotten even worse, not better, as he's gotten on towards 80 years old.
He had only one real thing going for him - name recognition, and the fact that he snuggled up to the memory of Obama and tried to promise us he'd bring those days back again. Well, that and the fact that he could allegedly beat Trump head-to-head. Again...because of name recognition.
But that's not really a platform to run on, either. (He didn't actually have one - "I'm not Trump" is not really a campaign, you know?) And that's exactly why I just didn't see him going the distance...and frankly, neither did a lot of other folks.
I think it's going to be Warren. As for running mate, keep an eye on Andrew Yang. Warren's got a really savvy (and huge) think tank full of policy nerds behind her, and Yang's got some frankly fascinating ideas about automation and the effect it's having on the American economy that make him kind of a "trending" voice...it seems a natural fit.
Which could set up an intriguing battle between what basically amounts to Trump versus some really bright chess club geeks. Expect a lot of name-calling.

if Trump threw out money to voters like Oprah giving out Pontiacs, you know you'd be ready to string him up for it.
If Yang expects to incent people to vote for him, he needs to do it the old fashioned way......govt contract largess to big donors and empty unfulfilled promises to the little people.

And interesting.
Automation presents a fascinating problem. Consider for a moment retail in general is about to evaporate as 3D printing tech emerges...nobody's going to go to a store to buy anything, nobody's even going to order it on-line, they'll just...fabricate it. At local warehouses at first, then in homes.
Which presents an issue. What will people do in a fully automated culture, when the only things that can really be owned are proprietary trademarked recipes, the 3D printers themselves, and the raw materials needed to print stuff? Where are the jobs going to be? And who gets to own stuff?
At that point, you almost have to go to some form of socialism because pure capitalism turns into a game of Monopoly, just with real money, and very real consequences for the folks who lose. If you're not smart enough to be a researcher or a doctor or at least a banker, what other jobs are left at that point?
Technology could literally render capitalism - at least our present version of it - obsolete.

Thinks we were probably having the same societal conversations when the plow, cotton gin, etc were invented.
It takes a sort of “everything that can be invented/discovered has been invented/discovered mindset to presume that every future profession, from the most menial to the most technical, is in existence today already and able to be completely automated.

Oh, I agree. The problem is the jobs that we're going to need are going to require brighter and brighter people...and there just aren't that many super-bright people to go around.
What will the ordinary Joes do for a living that a robot can't do better?
Do we just let 'em starve and let the nerds breed? I don't see that playing well on anybody's campaign trail.

Ehhh, you’re falling in the “college or starve” trap.

It’s an understandable mindset but we’ve evolved to a place where it’s almost impossible to fill high-paying blue collar jobs because in our nation of pontificators no one actually knows how to DO jackshit anymore.
A robot isn’t going to unclog your toilet or install a hot water heater—a plumber will.
A robot isn’t going to reupholster your sofa. An upholsterer will.
A robot isn’t going to maintain a fleet of electronic autonomous vehicles—-a technician will.
All of these are blue collar jobs. All currently face labor shortages in their modern day versions. All can’t be replaced by a robot for the foreseeable future, and all currently can command $100/hr or more.
We aren’t going to be out of jobs so much as out of people trained to do them. It’s not rocket science, it’s basic vocational training.

Well, yeah...kinda. But consider also the evolution of stuff. The stupids are going to be the ones taking it on the chin, and even some jobs that do require some degree of skill will be gone just because of simple economics.
Upholsterers are going to be gone, except for specialized artisans who will maintain "antique" furniture. It's going to be so much easier and cheaper to print up a shiny new couch than re-upholster an old one. There's a myriad of jobs that will go away because of this. How many TV repairmen are there these days? By the time you pay to fix your old TV you could get a shinier newer one that's ten inches bigger and has twice the resolution...for about the same cost. So the old stuff just gets tossed. That problem multiplies manyfold as 3D printing tech emerges; stuff will only get steadily cheaper and more disposable.
We will definitely need techs for the foreseeable future to maintain that fleet of vehicles, as you said...but again, that's not a mutt job. Being a good plumber or electrician isn't a mutt job either, though they are considered "blue collar". Genuine idiots don't make good electricians or plumbers because good electricians and plumbers must be problem-solvers. You don't need a lot of education beyond vocational training, granted, but you do need a brain. Talk to a good plumber or electrician sometime; they're usually fairly sharp guys.
Eventually we'll get to problem-solving AI, though, and that's coming probably within 20 years. And then we have a whole different set of problems in addition to the displacement of jobs. A problem-solving AI could easily become Skynet...or at the very least, a Chinese swarm of people-seeking killer drones.

Almost 3 million more than Trump? Anyway, she barely lost Michigan and Wisconsin. She almost beat Trump actually. It was only about 75k votes combined for Wisc, Mich, and PA. If the libs didnt bote for Stein she would have won. The media made it sound like she was a lock, so people didnt think their vote mattered. Stein votes/Trump margin: MI: 51,463/10,704 PA: 49,678/46,765 WI: 31,006/22,177
Anyway, Pete would get blown away I think.

LOL. I'm not laughing at you, just the...idea. It'd be a weird pairing. Gabbard's been publicly anti-LBGTLQLDVLJSLWhatever (how many different sexes are there now?), for which she has gotten much guff, and that relationship would be...tense. Truth, Gabbard, from what I can tell, is a Republican running while wearing a Democrat's stripes...because she's from a Democratic state. She definitely occupies the same air as Joe Biden.
Pete presents as a moderate, and he certainly is compared to Bernie, but he's also a lot more of an actual progressive and Gabbard...isn't.
I like the guy a lot, actually, and he's certainly a Democrat I could tolerate because he isn't going to spend profusely or roll forth wild social experiments that probably aren't going to work as intended, and I've said since he appeared on the scene that he'd be president one day.
I just don't think that day is 2020. Mayor Pete's got to clean up his support from the black community first; best guess is he does that from the Indiana governor's chair because he's more of a hands-on admin-side guy than a policy wonk like Warren...and he's also not going to storm the bastion like Warren obviously intends to. Which again, is maybe not what wins the Democratic nomination right now - Trump isn't going to just hand the White House over to a reasonable fellow like Mayor Pete; it's going to have to be ripped from his hands and Warren seems the most likely to be the one to do that.
If Mayor Pete's going to win, he'll need a black running mate to ensure the black vote actually comes out for him, too, otherwise they'll stay home because the black community is decidedly chilly on the guy. There's been a lot of racial tension between the cops and black community in South Bend and Pete hasn't solved it yet. And history tells us when the black vote stays home, the Dems lose. So Mayor Pete and Tulsi seems...unlikely, in a lot of ways. Stranger stuff has happened in politics (Trump, anyone?), but again, I'd be surprised.

Propped up by the media and their “polls”, the same polls that had HilBag at 98% certainly to win 2016..6 days before the election. Biden’s going down in flames and this whole impeachment fairytale will be filed away and forgotten in a matter of weeks. Heck Pelosi was even taking questions yesterday and kept asking people not to ask about impeachment.

There really is no impeachment fairytale. He likely will be impeached. The Senate will vote in his favor. He will remain president. The Dems know that. What part is the fairytale?
