Only room for one "CJ" on this team!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I'm really confused. He was barely on the college radar,

Jan 10, 2007, 4:06 PM

how can he be on the NFL radar?

That is my question. Who is he listening to?

Jan 10, 2007, 4:10 PM

I just do not see that talent level, at least at this point in his career.

FAT TAX NOW!

My take...

Jan 10, 2007, 5:11 PM [ in reply to Looking at that list, who made a good call, who didn't? ]

My take is that almost all of our early entries would've been better off if they'd stayed:

Terry Allen: Could have been 1st round, left with questions about his knee.
Chris Gardocki: Not bad, put a punter/kicker/Kickoff man could have gone higher.
Ronald Williams: not drafted; left after poor rehab of knee, lost starting job.
Chester McGlockton: mid. 1st round -- okay decision.
Trevor Pryce: end of 1st round w/ only 8 games as DE; certain top 10 pick as senior.
Anthony Simmons: mid. 1st round -- okay decision.
Rahim Abdullah: 2nd round on talent. Staying in school would've helped him stay in NFL.
Corey Hulsey: not drafted; REALLY needed 1 more year. What was he thinking?
Keith Adams: Size questions could have been reduced by another productive year.
Derrick Hamilton: Talented, but dropped a lot and '03 was a deep WR class.
Donnell Washington: Big body would have gone higher than 3rd with good senior yr.
Justin Miller: Okay decision. Great returner but wasn't even best corner on Clemson's '04 team (T. Hill).
CJ Gaddis: Great size, strength, etc. but why leave early if you're not projected to be a 1st DAY (not round) pick?

The amount of money that goes to the first 5 or 10 picks is much, much higher than even mid to late first rounders. And the drop off that occurs from the last pick of the first round to the first pick of the second round is also enormous. A player's initial contract depends almost entirely on draft position and very few clubs are willing to renegotiate within the first few years even if the young player is dominating on the field. Yeah, coming back for your senior year can be a gamble -- so is anything or any decision you make in life. But the great thing about this gamble is that you're betting on yourself. If you think you're worth the big money then how can you believe that another year -- another series of chances to prove yourself -- can do anything but enhance or solidify your position among the pro scouts. I just don't get it. Of course, a player could get injured if they come back, but they could also be in a car accident tomorrow. You can't live worrying about the bad things that "might" happen. Simply put, most players can only help themselves by coming back. Because he's leaving early Gaddis with will go in with less experience than many other rookies and as a late round pick the club won't have invested enough in him to make sure he gets plenty of chances to improve. I just can't see his logic here. It looks like he's setting himself up for an early exit from the NFL and with no dipolma to fall back on.

Just my opinion,
-Moon

Re: I love how everyone is telling Gaddis goodluck.

Jan 11, 2007, 3:54 AM

like he would read this anyway. They are telling him goodluck when everyone knows good and well that Gaddis cant handle the NFL. They also know he could help Clemson out next year, so their "goodlucks" seem a little B.S. to me. I fear that Gaddis is making a severe mistake and most intelligent people feel the same way but they will never admit it. Goodluck Gaddis!

I agree. I don't think players read these posts either. People on here get so egomaniacal they actually believe they are talking to the players. Pathetic. CJ is making a huge mistake.

Any guess as to if he's drafted? Free agent?

Jan 13, 2007, 8:53 AM

C.J. It's pretty obvious that he needs a big season to raise his stock...next year could have been a "Tye Hill"-type senior season...did wonders for him. Oh well...good luck C.J.
