Best 2013 road trip? Syracuse or UVA???
Feb 27, 2013, 11:58 AM

We try to make one big road trip every year and these two seem like the two best trips this year that we haven't made before. The two best trips we have made the last few years were Boston (best destination) and VT (best environment for football). I don't expect Syracuse or UVA to rival either of these.

We are making the Syracuse trip...

and along the way we intend to take-in Niagara Falls, the MLB Hall of Fame, and the site of the 1969 Woodstock festival.
Having been to UVa several times, you aren't missing much.

Both are set near beautiful scenery, but you're not going to

get a Boston experience at either. I went to UVA for grad school and loved it, but I don't know how much fun a weekend there would be. The history of the place is great.

Syracuse for me-only reason is because I haven't been there. Maybe we catch a break on the weather as it's not in November. Been to UVA a few times also-probably drivable for most folks. I agree, doesn't do much for me-great academic school but campus is over rated in my opinion. Scott stadium is "on campus", just doesn't feel like it though.

UVA...since Monticello, Annapolis, Mt Vernon, DC are near...
Feb 27, 2013, 12:46 PM
|

and I've always loved the UVA campus with old dorms & Thomas Jefferson designed buildings, downtown...and Monticello just miles away! Done it numerous times and have seen Tigers win a few more times than lost..including the big win in 1987/88/89? there when we came back from 7-27 halftime score to win 28-27 in last seconds after holding off UVA rally for a FG...and then my Clemson freshman son & I raced onto the field to yell with players & band..while I waved my "famous" 4'x6' Orange Tiger Paw flag.
GoTiGERs!

If you're into history, Monticello and Mt Vernon....

are definitely worth seeing.
With respect to US History, while Mt. Vernon is about two hours from Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, VA and Spotsylvania, VA are closer and have some great Civil War battlefields that are well worth touring. Of course, Appomattox is just a little over an hour south of Charlottesville.

A chance to eat again at the Bavarian Chef restaurant. Family style heavy German food, followed by a Clemson win. That would be a great trip. (Plus, I'm southern by birth, and Virginian by the grace of God!)

No question... UVA... Charlottesville campus one of the most beautiful and the town has incredible restaurants. It will beat any other ACC road trip other than Boston. Only thing Syracuse has going for it is the orange color.

UVA every once in a while since they are in the Coastal division. If you haven't been to either place, pick the Coastal opponent since you'll get a chance to go to Syracuse in 2 more years.
that's what clemsonsuzi is doing

this year rather than risk having to go in late November in two more years.

The only actual bummer is the actual city of Syracuse. 825 miles from the Clemson/Greenville area.

facility... It's not too bad. I'll probably be at the UVA game. Don't go to many, but I'll gladly show up to see the tigers in person.
