health. He lived a squarely middle class life while making big $$$, and saving. Retired, built his dream home, MASSIVE, and then his wife got dementia, and she's passed now and he's all alone in a massive house, and that just sux.
Nope, I'm planning fully to downsize, never retire, and live frugally always.
Will probably sell this palatial estate 65ish, buy a starter home again, and use whatever is left to pay for medical expenses, just like most older people have learned.

You would be surprised how many people have done what ryanadidas® has said.
Massive mansion. Just them in there because they don't have kids or friends that care about them. Their entire life was work and amassing a fortune and now they can't even use one of the 5 bathrooms in their house in Debordieu.
Some things I've learned listening to her stories:
1. I never, EVER, want to go to a nursing home. I rather die early.
2. Wealthy kids usually suck at handling their parent's medical problems
3. There's a surprising amount of multi million dollar houses that look like a trailer park threw up on the inside.
No thanks.
I'll live small and hope I die somewhere around 70.
