Sen. Graham to introduce legislation to end birthright citizenship.

Oct 30, 2018, 12:14 PM

No politician is going to touch this. That's not what he's interested in. This will help propel the issue and pave the way for a Supreme Court showdown.

Get it through Congress and then the Supreme Court has to deal with it.

So Trump is guilty of collusion?

Oct 30, 2018, 12:39 PM

It's beginning to look like a conspiracy to take over congress.

He put the subject on the table.

Oct 30, 2018, 12:35 PM

Be fair. Trump expects this to end up with the SCOTUS which I think we all assume is an eventuality. If a POTUS expects to do something so controversial he should expect to need some help from congress.

Imo, this was coordinated. One day Trump makes a bold statement and the next day a pub announces he's sponsoring a bill for that very cause. Tell me this isn't part of the hype about the mobs coming from Central America. Go ahead.

2024 orange level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpgringofhonor-clemsontiger1988-110.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

That's not how it's going to work.

Oct 30, 2018, 2:47 PM

Y'all are assuming the President or the SCOTUS have a say in this. They don't. This is going to take Congress and the States, and the votes aren't going to be there.

This is the correct way to address the issue...

Oct 30, 2018, 1:01 PM

if you want it addressed...you know, all legal and stuff.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't see, fundamentally, how it's that much different.

Oct 30, 2018, 1:09 PM

Each branch would be taking an action that may not be constitutional, and would find out via the Supreme Court. I don't see why Congress doing so is any more "right" than the President doing so.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Because the President is supposed to enforce laws....

Oct 30, 2018, 2:15 PM

and as the law stands now, if you are born in the US, you are a US citizen.

Congress is supposed to create and change laws...therefore, a change to existing law should be made by our representatives in Congress.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mainly a matter of interpretation...

Oct 30, 2018, 3:24 PM

You could interpret the executive order that he's executing the existing law in a different way. I'm sure many disagree with that, of course.

But are trying to do the same thing, though. If the President is proposing an EO that he knows is unconstitutional, then you must also say that Congress would be trying to pass a law that it knows is unconstitutional.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But there are laws on the books that cover immigration....

Oct 30, 2018, 3:47 PM

policy.

The correct way to push an issue and see what the courts say about it is to pass/change a law...not an executive decree.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

This will lead, I would like to think, to a very healthy debate

Oct 30, 2018, 1:09 PM

on the issue.

I think the value of the language in the 1800s is lost today, and I don’t think that the drafters ever considered people coming to this country just to give birth and have a child that is a US citizen. Almost no other developed country has this policy.

about the massacre? Maybe I haven't been keeping up, but have you figured out how to blame him for that one?

believe that Trump's connection to and tacit approval of alt-right websites and causes, or at least his failure to disavow those platforms, like gab, etc., have contributed to what has apparently been an increase in the number of anti-Semitic attacks in the US.

Oct 30, 2018, 3:37 PM

the difference is that this guy was either crazy or evil or both. Way too big of a stretch to say that Trump was at all related to this guy's actions....especially considering the guy reportedly hated Trump due to his support of Israel.

Why not blame his actions of those people who were complaining that Trump was in the pocket of Israel....seems that would be equally "logical".
