In regards to the infield fly rule debacle from the Cardinals Braves game a few years ago, should the infield fly rule be changed to a post play retroactive call? The infield fly rule is designed to protect the runners from a fielder intentionally dropping the ball and getting an easy double play. During the play if the umpire judges its an infield fly situation he raises his arm but doesn't declare anything and if the ball drops safely and runners advance without a double play than no infield fly rule is enforced.

You'd basically just be saying the runners could do whatever they wanted, including having two guys on the same base, because you've ruled out the possibility of a double play.
