Best case scenario after this weekend....

Nov 6, 2013, 11:40 AM

I'm having a hard time figuring out who to pull for in this weeks 3 big games. Even if the results didn't affect Clemson, I wouldn't have any strong preferences (I like Oregon and Stanford about the same, don't care much about Baylor or Oklahoma, and dislike Alabama and LSU about the same). So in an attempt to make the games a little more exciting, I tried to come up with how the different scenarios would affect Clemson. What helps Clemson most is still debatable, but the scenario I like the most is Alabama and Baylor losing and Oregon winning. That way we jump Alabama if they lose to Auburn or in the SECCG and have a good shot at getting to #4 and a guaranteed BCS spot.

BCS standings if:

Alabama, Oregon and Baylor lose

1. FSU
2. Ohio St.
3. Stanford
4. Alabama
5. Oregon
6. Clemson
7. Missouri
8. Oklahoma
9. Auburn
10.LSU

Alabama, Oregon and Baylor win

1. Alabama
2. Oregon
3. FSU
4. Ohio State
5. Baylor
6. Clemson
7. Missouri
8. Auburn
9. Miami
10.Stanford

I would like to see Stanford beat Oregon and OU beat Baylor.

That would move Clemson a few spots in the polls.

Then if FSU beat Alabama in the national championship game to dethrone the SEC with the ACC, and Clemson could beat Oregon in a BCS game... I think that would help recruiting the most.

That, and adding Saban of course...

I could see this if....

1. Oregon loses by 3+ touchdowns

2. Saban leaves for Texas Friday night. The team is so distraught they don't even show up.

Stanford is a one loss team and lsu a 2 loss team. They would drop out of the top 5.

Bama won't fall to 6th because they won't get dropped that

Nov 6, 2013, 12:39 PM [ in reply to Re: Best case scenario after this weekend.... ]

far in the human polls. Ohio St would be 2nd in human polls and close to Stanford in computer polls so they would be #2.

Top 3:
1)FSU
2)Ohio St
3)Stanford

4)Probably Bama

I think it would be close b/t OU, Oregon, and us after that. Mizzou and Auburn likely stay behind us as they don't play anyone to boost their rankings at all. They could be fighting with LSU for 8-10 spots.

Bama losing to a 2 loss team will drop them out of the top 5. Stanford beating Oregon will put them over Ohio state. Human polls and computers give Ohio st no credit.

no way they put us ahead of bama and ore

Nov 6, 2013, 12:42 PM [ in reply to Re: Best case scenario after this weekend.... ]

The only way they put us ahead of bama is if they get blasted worse than we did. Oregon we have a better chance to jump. If they lose by 14 or so i say we jump them. But jumping bama is almost impossible, the pollsters love them to much.

After losing to a 2 loss team?? Computers will make sure bama is behind clemson.

Alabama might drop to #6 or #7 in the computer rankings, but if the Harris and Coaches poll rank them #4 that would be enough to keep them #5 at the lowest since the human polls count for 2/3 of the BCS.
