Backstreets flow chart

I made a small flow chart to help with the boycott
A. Do you live in Clemson (if so, proceed to B, if not, skip to G )
B. Are you between the ages of 21-25? (if so, proceed to C, if not, skip to G )
C. Do you go to bars at night only to eat (if so, proceed to D, if not, skip to F )
D. Do you carry your gun everywhere (if so, proceed to E, if not, skip to F)
E. Feel free to boycott
F. The sign didn't apply to you, so enjoy the cheap booze and bar food
G. You probably aren't going to go there anyway

I wouldn't take a gun to a bar, and I hope others wouldn't either. However, I think it's more than a little ridiculous for him to call people who carry "losers" and "douchebags." Bar owners who don't want people to carry in their bars need to put up legally passable signs that aren't all about pissing people off.
I figured most Clemson people would end up siding with our own when outsiders got involved, but it's interesting how off- track the whole discussion has gotten.

i can concur with some points made for both sides...
i guess it's not as much a point of NEED as it is WANT.
plus the d-bag part offended folks who take it personal.
still, in Clemson & Backstreets there's not much call to need a gun on your person, jmo.
but then again, maybe i'd like to bring my new handgun in to show off to Pete...

Bars are not "gun free zones". At least not some of those which I have frequented in the past. A lot of which, wild horses couldn't have dragged me into if I had not been with folks familiar with the territory.
But, I will agree with you. NONE of those were in Clemson.

upset. i agree with the right of the owner to not allow weapons, as much as i agree with the rights of people to carry weapons, the dumb ash just went about it wrong (singular,not plural,mind ya!)

I'm just going to go ahead and move to E without going through the steps. I would agree with him that people don't need to be packing in a bar while drinking, but I think he comes off as an ###, so I would rather take my business elsewhere. I went there when I was in college a couple of times. I thought it was an alright place.

I guess I am referring to not going there in the future. I live in Colorado, so obviously I'm not going to go there tomorrow night or anything. I think it is offensive. If it were about another subject, one that is a little closer to your heart, I bet you would think it is a bigger deal than you do. It is easy to brush things off when you agree with the original message anyway.

Also, I see you are chiding people because they don't live in the area anymore or are a little bit older, and they don't agree with the sign, but I don't see you saying very much about people commenting on the situation that have never even been to Clemson and have lived all the way across the country their entire lives. Maybe I missed that post.

and at that point in the future is it really going to matter? Again, don't you find it the smallest bit strange that people are making a big deal out of this? If it wasn't posted on the internet, how many people would this have applied to that enter his bar? I think it was obviously poorly thought out, but does it really deserve this amount of coverage?

I really only see stuff about it on tigernet. I didn't know it was getting huge coverage in the area. It doesn't deserve a huge amount of coverage, but I think it is fine material to argue about on tnet.

Is Gawker an important news site? I knew it was on there, but I only knew that because it has been linked from tigernet. I haven't seen it on the national news. I can see it being on local news, as that is a sign that is likely to offend quite a few people in the upstate, so it would do well as a news story.

According to Foxnews Carolina, the sign reads "If you are such a loser that you feel you need to carry a gun with you when you go out, I don't want your business. D-bag." That doesn't say anything about only in his bar, it is a blanket statement about all CCW holders, both in his bar and out. Maybe a sign reading No Weapons Allowed would have been the better option.

Is it possible, do you think, to not be outraged, but to decide to not go to a business if the chance presents itself, or does one have to bawl one's fists up like a child and scream to the heavens if they don't agree with someone and decide to take their business elsewhere. I'm not outraged, I'm not losing sleep, I simply think the business owner portrayed himself as an ###, and I wouldn't give him my business. Don't portray it like I am fuming mad over here. I even said I agreed with him that people have no business taking weapons into a bar. I just don't agree with him being an ###. It's fine if you do.

So, I get that you don't think it should be very newsworthy. I don't think it should be huge news either, but I think you want to blame the people who are offended, and I want to blame the guy who posted a stupid sign. No weapons allowed would have done the trick, but he had to take it up a notch and make it newsworthy.
