These financial aid agreements are pretty worthless, right?

Aug 1, 2014, 5:05 PM

I mean, obviously they have value in being a step toward an early signing period (does anything the NCAA does right not take 500 baby steps to get there?!) but they're pretty toothless from what I can tell.

There's no penalty to the player or a (stealing) school for eventually signing somewhere else, correct?

And "unlimited contact"? If the guy is sure enough in his commitment to sign an agreement that's probably not going to make much of a difference either...

What's the real value to these things?

Having said that, welcome to the Clemson Family for the guys who signed today!!

I would go with the Character that Dabo recruits any day of the week, they are family right this minute. Nothing is 100%, but I'll take the odds!!!

No they aren't binding , but neither is a letter of intent they can get out of those also if they're willing to sit or go to a lower level school for a year.

Well, they are not worthless to the recruit. I think it binds the school, but not the high school athlete. Pretty much, I think it means that the school cannot rescind the offer. However, I would say that it is slightly better than a verbal.

It's not binding at all. The player signs, he gets said aid,

Aug 1, 2014, 6:42 PM

he decides to go elsewhere, he's totally free to do so. It's just helpful to the family to know the financial details regarding cost of school

IMO it is actually a big deal

Binding offer for athlete
School can communicate very liberally throughout the season and year.. Unlike other recruits whereby they have to communicate only during contact times....

High school coaches like it cause it cuts down significantly on rift raft recruiting...

Families like it cause they can relax a bit and enjoy senior season

Clemson can also facilitate paperwork etc for January enrollment

IMO again.... Pretty big deal we are going to have this many athletes enroll early!

Symbolically a very big deal and Dabo is making it a sign of a promise. Legally it means nothing

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Yes, it's binding in that the school guarantees the aid to

athlete. But the student can still be recruited by otter schools and can decide to go to another school at any time up until he signs the papers. It's a nice gesture on the schools part, but that's about it. Not binding at all for the student.
