Defensive Expectations

Defensive Expectations
I think there is a misconception about Clemson's defense in 2015 that may have us fooled in 2016.

I get the feeling that many fans don't think there was a drop off from the nation's top defense of 2014. I think this is the case because of two things. First, it wa

that's understandable.. .but, at the same time, the offense should be equally better.

At times, the Clemson D was especially good last season. Especially the third down defense. But this team gave up more than 50 touchdowns and many of them to less than average teams As a whole, this was not a great defense. I see no reason why my Tigers can't out score everyone as they did last year. I'm not overly concerned about the new guys. I hope we can play tough enough to force more turnovers this season.

The D ran out of gas last year, the early bye-week

Maguire won't be starting at QB so their most important position will be a new guy. Who know what effect it will have though.

BV's "tempered glass" style of def got busted a few more

times in 2015 than in 2014. It was similar to 2013, where most of the defensive lapses were due to busts in the secondary.

Teams didn't drive the field on us, they popped the occasional big play.

BV is smart in that he plays to get the other team off the field quickly. The worst we can do is let the other offense drain clock and take possessions away from our O.

This year I think the D will be better if our DE's are as solid. I think we will have more depth at LB this year.

There is no way the defense doesn't take a step back this year. We are very thin at DE and corner. How good will we be with just a couple of injuries in the secondary? Our linebackers and interior line are solid but our DEs won't be as good and we are just hoping the secondary will be good. I'd be happy with a top 25 defense this year and hope we can outscore everyone and get key stops on D.

Maybe our DE's are as good? You never know.*****
