Auburn Tigers ranked number one in the country

Sep 17, 2013, 3:08 PM

By computer used in BCS formula.

Go figure.

This is why computers shouldn't choose who plays for

Sep 17, 2013, 3:10 PM

the National Championship.

When they try to take out bias, they take out common sense too.

Playoff or bust!!

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn

Sep 17, 2013, 3:25 PM

shouldn't be #1.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn = Suck + 1***

Sep 17, 2013, 3:43 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why not Northwestern? Or Ok St.? Or Michigan?

Sep 17, 2013, 3:44 PM [ in reply to Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn ]

They're 3-0 too...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Do you think W-L should be the only factor in the computer

Sep 17, 2013, 3:46 PM

formula? There would be a lot of ties.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What else is then? AU put up average points on mediocre

Sep 17, 2013, 4:49 PM

competition...

Re: Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn

Sep 17, 2013, 4:02 PM [ in reply to Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn ]

Auburn < Clemson, simple as that!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

A computer should just be programmed to know that?***

Sep 17, 2013, 4:05 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Why are their three wins better than anyone else's

Sep 17, 2013, 4:12 PM [ in reply to Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn ]

three?

And then explain to me the formula that choses.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

I don't know their formula. There's this:

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

But then wouldn't it have to factor in their opponents'

Sep 17, 2013, 4:30 PM

opponents' records and so forth and so on--it's an endless cycle.

There's no way Auburn is the best team in the country and you know it. I don't care how you cut it, lies, #### lies, or statistics.

badge-donor-05yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Mathematically speaking, a team that needed a last second

Sep 17, 2013, 4:28 PM [ in reply to Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn ]

touchdown to beat a .500 team AT HOME, should not be #1.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

that's not too hard. ok,computers can only count to 1, right

Sep 17, 2013, 5:08 PM [ in reply to Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn ]

so auburn is #1 according to a computer, got it ? me neither.

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

wins over Washington State and Miss State

Sep 17, 2013, 5:09 PM [ in reply to Explain, in exclusively mathematical terms, why Auburn ]

what about that screams #1?

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Their computer has a viru$***

Sep 17, 2013, 3:16 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Wow, that should really close the book on the BCS. That

Sep 17, 2013, 3:20 PM

tells me all I need to know about the computers.

Re: Auburn Tigers ranked number one in the country

Sep 17, 2013, 3:22 PM

Best joke I heard all day!!!

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

What does it matter after just 3 games?***

Sep 17, 2013, 3:25 PM

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Auburn has the best record (3-0) in the nation.

Sep 17, 2013, 3:38 PM

Among teams that are 3-0, only Oklahoma, Louisville, and Oregon have a better opponents' W-L (2-1, not counting the games vs. Auburn). And Auburn has a better opponents' opponents' record (5-2) than any of them.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Re: Auburn has the best record (3-0) in the nation.

Sep 17, 2013, 3:54 PM

Auburn
flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

It's really that simple, why is that so hard to understand?***

Sep 17, 2013, 5:47 PM [ in reply to Auburn has the best record (3-0) in the nation. ]

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

proof alone

Sep 17, 2013, 3:41 PM

that Al Gore invented the internet.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Dude. They beat an SEC team last week. That ties them

Sep 17, 2013, 4:16 PM

for #1, at the very least.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Some other highlights (or lowlights)

Sep 17, 2013, 4:35 PM

7. Central Florida
9. Navy
25. Clemson
26. Texas St. (who?)
48. SC
57. Georgia

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Slight correction

Sep 17, 2013, 4:37 PM

48. real USC
50. SC

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Stupid Auburn pumper article - that is why you wait until Oct 13...

Sep 17, 2013, 4:40 PM

Too few data points and as the article does point out - the formula is very erratic early on. Things will smooth out as the season progresses and it will be brought in line with the other computer programs.

2024 white level memberbadge-donor-10yr.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Next for them is @LSU and then Ole Miss...we'll see where

Sep 17, 2013, 4:52 PM

they are then...

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

Exactly my point about it only being week 3. So much

Sep 17, 2013, 5:01 PM

can go wrong for Auburn against LSU. It's no different than tracking who's "up" in the Heisman running or whatever. Too many weeks to go.
