two best conferences in college football. And while the SEC won the most recent National Championship, the ACC has still won two of the last four. Louisville beating Miss State in the Music City Bowl is what gives the ACC the slight advantage in my rankings going into the 2020 season.

Haha no. ACC is Clemson and then a bunch of garbage.

Jan 23, 2020, 7:20 AM

Big 10 is better than ACC, at the very least.

No. . . no, I have to agree with the OP that the Music City Bowl is the deciding factor.

The Big 10 did not win the Music City Bowl.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

By what metric?

Jan 23, 2020, 8:44 AM [ in reply to Haha no. ACC is Clemson and then a bunch of garbage. ]

In the playoff era:

Number of National Championship game appearances...
ACC: 4
SEC: 6
Big 10: 1

Number of National Championship game wins...
ACC: 2
SEC: 3
Big 10: 1

Number of total points scored by conference in the playoffs...
2020: ACC: 54, SEC: 105, Big 10: 23
2019: ACC: 74, SEC: 61, Big 10: 0
2018: ACC: 6, SEC: 127, Big 10: 0
2017: ACC: 66, SEC: 55, Big 10: 0
2016: ACC: 77, SEC: 83, Big 10: 0
2015: ACC: 20, SEC: 35, Big 10: 84

Also, Ohio State, which is the best program in the Big 10, has never beaten Clemson in any era.

I'm sorry, I just don't see your logic here.

flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

By looking at last year... ya if you want to go back in history that changes things.

Jan 23, 2020, 5:46 PM [ in reply to By what metric? ]

If that was your intent, then I misunderstood.

Also just a side note, total points scored by conference in the playoffs? WTH kind of stat is that? That says nothing about a conference’s strength top to bottom over the course of the season. Also, national championship game appearances/wins says nothing about the conference as a whole either. Those are mostly skewed by 1 or 2 teams. You’re not a data analyst by trade I take it?

The Music City bowl is often referred to as the CFP consolation game - so reasoning is sound.
