Why did they put an Irish clover on the Notre Dame tombstone

Posted: Mar 14, 2019 4:00 PM

Is that just more special treatment for Notre Dame that everyone complains about? Now we have an Irish clover on the Clemson campus. Not a good look.

A little black sharpie or paint can make that look like it never happened

They need to chisel it out, looks bush league.

Perhaps just a way of having it stand out since it was a CFP game? That's just a guess on my part obviously.

It wasn't done for other playoff games right? It wasn't even done on the National Championship tombstone. What a bad decision.

I'm not sure? It was just the only thing I could come up with.

At first glance, it looks like a green piece of cotton like the

Cotton bowl logo. It's a terrible clover, & I dont get it. It's not 1988. Why is beating them special? Aren't we 3-1 against them since 1977?

Tim Bourret probably did it.***

I think it symbolizes that they only had 3 points... and even that was just luck.

The only people that should be upset about this are ND fans.

If FM is still looking for something to be upset about, this might do it...

Here's a picture of the bad decision.

are still relevant, so I am good with the clover. We should be 4-0 all time against ND, as my freshman year in 1977 we were up 17-7 over the eventually National Champion Irish led by some guy at QB named Joe Montana. A Steve Fuller's fumble at midfield late in the 4th quarter led to the winning ND TD to beat us 21-17. We are 3-0 since then.

Great game ! I was a kid and went with my brother. Still have the program. I thought the Tigers had those guys but things worked out. I hated Joe M for awhile after that but hard to hate a guy who teamed up and became best friends with Dwight Clark.

My question: why do we have broccoli on the ND tombstone? I have shamrocks on my porch and broccoli in my freezer, and that looks a lot more like the broccoli than the shamrocks.

It's to commemorate the birth of Reverse St. Patrick's Day which our team caused on Dec 29. On St. Patrick's Day, everyone is Irish. On Reverse St. Patrick's Day, nobody worth a #### is.

it also marks the demotion of "Touchdown Jesus" to "Field Goal Jesus."

Posts like this explains the pulse at least. Who the #### cares if they put a shamrock (the correct terminology you were looking for) on the tombstone?

The Shamrock IS a clover:

Irish clover still isn’t a term in the vernacular. And of all hills to die on this is the one you choose. Its just not a big deal and really something I didn’t even think twice about until your dumb@ss thread

It's on the Irish tombstone. It's vernacular as can be. PLEASE learn Engrishisms.

Still no reason to pay money to put another school's logo on our football property.

So is Clemson going to go around campus an placing other school logos on buildings for nods to staff who went to other schools?

Re: Why did they put an Irish clover on the Notre Dame tombstone

Sure. They will start with putting a tiger paw for Tony Elliot, then a tiger paw for Jeff Scott and then a tiger paw for Brandon Streeter.

It's the perfect look of shade thrown ND's way...

the 3 leaf clover (which is what is actually on the tombstone) carries no "luck" unlike the mythical 4 leaf clover...

if you don't remember, there were plenty on ND's side that we were the lucky ones to win in the monsoon back in 2015. I like the nod that we LEFT NO DOUBT and needed no luck to lay the smack down on ND in the Cotton Bowl...

I think they did it so the Irish fans would know how lucky they are to be in a league with Clemson.

They put it because the win was magically delicious and they want future generations to know.
