But, your level of hate seems to surpass their level of implied mediocrity.

I mean, you could just say “Meh... Tool’s not for me.” And we could argue with that. But AEnema (the song, not the album) isn’t going to go away. I won’t ever turn that song when it comes on the radio.

Now a much more valid complaint regarding Tool would be, Tool really sucked at naming their rock songs. I mean really, really sucked at that. Just check the titles of their songs. They suck.
