I'm from Winnsboro. Went there several times. Didn't remember it being that high. Of course that was 57 or 58 years ago!

Theres a small one in West Columbia behind some apartments now although I wouldn’t recommend jumping in today based on what it looked like as of a few years ago- pretty nasty. There us a huge abandoned quarry in Jenkinsville off I-20 with sequential jumps going from 20 ft to 100 ft (the water level fluctuates). We dropped a rope to measure the highest jump once and clocked it at 88 ft. It was a truly terrifying jump, you had to clear a ledge below, and by the time you fit the water, your cheeks were flapping.

That is NOT 100 feet, more like 35 or 40 feet high.

Neat! How does one get there? Is it part of the Rockton-Ryan quarry system? Used to have some property on the Rockton-Ryan Railway line.

Around 1971 during summer school we went to a quarry near Clemson that is in Lake Hartwell. One side had a 25" or 30" rock ledge to go off of and the other side had some clay cliffs maybe 40". The rocky side was fine but on the clay side you had to clear a part of the bank and a ledge. Only one of our group tried it. He got a running start and cleared the ledge by just a couple of feet. We decided to pass and then went to the bridge by the Y Beach and got one jump before a deputy ran us off. A few years later a friend of mine's cousin was paralyzed after hitting the ledge on the clay side at the quarry. We were fortunate!

a trip there with some of his buds. First of all, it is on private property with no trespassing signs warning violators. Water is also nasty since it is primarily runoff water with no flow/exit. Dangers lurk below the water surface as well from rocks and old equipment. Many accidents reported over the years. Just be careful!

Earned a $80 trespassing ticket there in 1992 or so.
Seemed like we had jumps between 70 and 90 feet. Those don't look near that high.

We had an old train trestle over Black Creek in Darlington. About a 30-35’ jump, water 8-10’ deep. Biggest (and maybe not the smartest) fun was jumping at night.
