Anyjuan here ever done a DIY epoxy/flake coating in garage?

(or paid a pro?)
I see kits @ home depot for $130-$200 and have no idea what a professional company would charge...
wondering if anyone's got experience with either, effort info for the DIY, or pricing info for pro's...

This story is a little nuts, but my old roommate owned the house we lived in and he did this in the garage and it was freaking awesome.
However I remember drinking beer and watching him do it and then all the sudden we both almost passed out from the fumes from whatever was in the mix he used. It was nuts. Like we both looked at each other and said, man I feel like I am going to pass out. So we both ran out into fresh air and felt immediately better. I went to Home Depot and rented a huge fan and used that while he applied to coating on the floor.
Anyway, long boring story, but yes, it’s freaking awesome stuff and so easy to clean. With all the snow and mess here, really wish mine was done.

but in our last house, it was all teh rage with old folks around us. They said it cost about $2K to get it done for a 2 car garage. The floor has to be degreased, ground and etched to create a physical adhesion.

They both said thats how much it cost. That was almost 2 years ago now, so the price may have come down or changed.

Used to do overlays, and this product is straightforward.

Treat the concrete with diluted muriatic acid and you’ll be good to go.
Follow directions very specifically and you’ll be fine. Only downside is you better like it, because you’ll never get rid of it once you put it down.

Dude I talked to had a grinder about 2/5 feet in diameter and said he takes from a 1/16-1/8" off the floor to get rid of any surface oils.

Not necessary unless the surface is really slick or has had

Years of oil saturation or sealer applied. The acid eats a thin layer and create the uneven surface necessary for proper adhesion. Just needs to be neutralized, rinsed and very dry.
