No, he is riding the fence now but if they attach coal he will have to flip or get beat.

i think even france increased coal consumption in 2019

military_donation.jpg flag link military_tech thumb_downthumb_up

No, it was actually the exact opposite

Nov 13, 2020, 7:23 AM

"France’s electricity sector cut its carbon emissions by 6% last year as consumption fell while wind, solar and natural gas displaced coal-fired power generation."

Where did you get that info? GE is making the coal fired generators everyday.

I was through West Virginia a couple months ago.

I can absolutely promise you coal isn't coming back. I've seen grim before but what you see in West Virginia right now is far beyond that. Charleston - their capital, not our coastal tourist Mecca - is turning into an absolute ghost town on the fringes, the newest businesses are Family Dollars and Piggly Wiggly's - it's like, time stopped in the 1980's there - and at least half of those are shuttered. Their most happening building is the State Lotto.

I think there's one Starbucks in the state, as far as I can tell. It's at a big giant truck stop mall off I-77.

Anybody who thinks West Virginia is some kind of incontrovertible GOP stronghold is fooling themselves. West Virginia is wide slap open for the taking; the Dems just have to go in there with some kind of a plan and give them hope. They just haven't bothered because the Dems are, frankly, both stupid and elitist and it's the same old crap with them. The state's best resources are their valleys, rivers, and watershed...the last thing West Virginia needs to do is go messing those up with more coal-industry detritus.

Their big hope is actually just that: they've got a lot of cheap land nobody wants, and abundant water. Especially as urban shift accelerates the big problem with Democrat-run urban areas is going to become increasingly obvious: liberal activism. You can't get anything done in big cities; you try to knock down that old condemned eyesore on the corner and fifty different Historical Preservation Societies sue to preserve the community's "cultural heritage"; you try to dig a Boring Company tunnel under the town so you can start unsnarling that insane traffic in LA and you get a bazillion bored old fogies in Brentwood bringing lawsuits against Elon Musk in the name of environmental impact. The super-billionaire oil Shiekhs that own NYCFC can't even get a soccer stadium built on the wreckage of the old World's Fair that hasn't been open in 50+ years.

And of course, there's those old problems with crime and the newer ones with incessant rioting and skyrocketing cost-of-living that means even 100K a year isn't a living wage in Silicon Valley anymore.

So what you're going to see, especially as V-farming and storable power that can massively expand the grid like Tesla's PowerWall take off, is the first planned corporate cities, Arcologies. It's a concept we've seen gathering steam for awhile, and we're right on the brink of that, like shopping malls back in the day...and they're going to be built in thinly-populated red states exactly like West Virginia that have the land and water to support them while also having corporate-friendly enough state laws that liberal activism isn't going to get in the way. Which has always been the reality: stuff happens where progress isn't hampered by activism but by genuine convergence of opportunity.

At which point the trend towards urban shift is going go the other way, and all the folks you see currently moving into cities are going to realize they really aren't livable and head for greener pastures, and that's where the energy is going to be. I think this current trend towards virtuality is only going to accelerate that.

Stuff shifts and changes. And places like West Virginia are about to see some massive big changes, IMHO.

My wife asked me the same question - we see him on Fox.

I was in WV for a meeting (Greenbrier) and drove through the town he is from. I can tell you he did not see one Biden sign when he drives to/from his house to the airport. He is surrounded.

I thought France was getting rid of their nuclear electricity generation capability. Is that data old showing 70% still nuclear?

The progressives/libs hate nuclear even though it is the cleanest power on the planet. Can't build hydro plants because it affects minnows.

Agree with quozzel on bureaucracy and getting things done. Many people inside their state/local/federal gov't use a strategy of not making decisions, deferring action, creating barriers to doing anything so they don't have to work and do not do anything to get "in trouble." Unfortunately, you can't get fired in the gov't for doing nothing, so that is many people's strategy.

National turnover data supports this...the federal gov't has the lowest turnover of any industry - way, way lower. What does that tell you?

No, Manchin has worked with Joe for years. He knows that Joe is a moderate and will work with him to help transition away from fossil fuels.

WVA needs some help implanting other industries there to replace the coal jobs. Manchin will work with the Dems to help achieve that
